From the Sports Arena in Toldeo, OH
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper
In action this week are Macho King Randy Savage, Big Bossman, Hart Foundation, Ted DiBiase, and Dino Bravo. Plus, Jake Roberts as guest on the “Brother Love Show” and more!
“Macho King” Randy Savage w/ Queen Sherri vs. Reno Riggins
Vince notes Sherri’s face being painted like a cat then notes how Battle Kat was supposed to be here this week but never showed up as Piper says he is not tough enough for the WWF. We see Sherri in an insert promo, slapping an Ultimate Warrior Wrestling Buddy three times because when you do that, nothing happens. Savage beats on Riggins, who is able to grab a headlock, then tosses him down. Sherri takes off a stocking and uses it to choke out Riggins then Savage flies out with a double axe handle before rolling him inside and hitting a flying elbow drop for the win (2:38).
Thoughts: Fun squash match as they hyped up a potential Savage vs. Warrior match. Sherri was great both during the match and in the insert promo. They also took a shot at Battle Kat on commentary. I know the original guy under the mask (Brady Boone) quit shortly after debuting but he was still with the company at this point.
WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We are shown the ending of the Nikolai Volkoff vs. Boris Zhukov match from the 9/24 edition of “Prime Time Wrestling.” Volkoff won then Sgt. Slaughter & General Adnan come out and beat him down as Slaughter uses a riding crop. It takes several officials to break this up. We then hear from Slaughter & Adnan as they tell Volkoff war has been declared.
Black Demon vs. “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka
Demon is Jose Luis Rivera under a mask. He attacks Snuka from behind but Snuka eventually fights back and chops him down. Snuka lands a headbutt then heads up to hit the Superfly Splash for the win (1:59). After the match, Snuka tosses Demon outside.
Thoughts: An easy win for Snuka, who has not been on TV in several weeks.
We then see a giant egg near the stage as Vince tells us its a giant turkey egg. This leads to a voiceover ad for the Survivor Series.
Mr. Perfect w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Jim Evans
Piper says Heenan holds the record for most titles lost by a manager. Evans takes Perfect down with a hip toss but Perfect takes Evans down and hammers away. The Texas Tornado is in an insert promo saying Perfect is now the perfect challenger as the announcers hype up the future rematch between the two. Perfect continues to work the leg then puts Evans away with the Perfect Plex (2:01). After the match, Heenan holds Evans up so Perfect can kick out his legs.
Thoughts: They continue to build up Perfect heading into his eventual Intercontinental Title rematch.
Vince tells us that “WWF Superstars” magazine will come out Thursday and feature the Ultimate Warrior on the cover.
Hart Foundation vs. Bob Bradley & Tony Burton
Bradley attacks Neidhart from behind but ends up getting clotheslined. The Hart Foundation take control then Burton tags in and gets beaten down. We hear from Rhythm & Blues with Jimmy Hart in an insert promo saying they have gold records and chains and are just missing gold around their waist and it will only be a matter of time before they get some then the Hart Foundation hit the Hart Attack for the win (2:40).
Thoughts: The Hart Foundation were really over here but Rhythm & Blues as the #1 contenders is nothing to get excited about.
“Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil & Sapphire vs. Red Tyler
DiBiase is shown in an insert promo with Virgil & Sapphire as he claims Dusty will be on his knees begging for mercy when they meet. He then beats on Tyler as the crowd chants for Dusty then the Million Dollar Dream gets the win (1:40).
Thoughts: An easy win for DiBiase as they continue to push his feud against Dusty Rhodes.
Vince plugs the WWF Calendar, with the Ultimate Warrior on the cover as we learn that Piper is featured for the month of March.
Brother Love Show is next. We once again see Rick Martel put over Arrogance as he sprays the set. However, this time Brother Love wants him to stay for the whole show because his guest carries a “stinky, slimy snake.” Jake Roberts comes out as Martel sprays more Arrogance. Jake says there is nothing about a snake that stinks and the only thing here that does is Brother Love’s upper lip or his “big seat.” Jake attempts to pull out Damien but Brother Love panics. Martel is then shown spraying Arrogance into the bag but Jake backs him off. Martel continues to spray as Jake doesn’t care for Brother Love’s games. Martel goes over to spray Damien again so Jake grabs him but as he falls down, Martel sprays Arrogance into Jake’s eyes. Jake starts going crazy on the ground while holding his eye. Big Bossman comes out to try and calm him down while Vince screams about Martel doing this on purpose. It was clear having Martel out on the Brother Love Show set for weeks would lead to something, especially after Brother Love asked him to stay after spraying the set. With Bad News quitting, Jake was left without a feud and remember months back that Martel was saying stuff about Jake in insert promos too so this made sense. And the angle came off great.
Kevin Kruger vs. Dino Bravo w/ Jimmy Hart & Earthquake
Vince says Jake is backstage but will not let anyone look at his eyes. Bravo attacks Kruger then hits a clothesline and a few suplexes then we hear from Tugboat in an insert promo, telling us that Hulk Hogan is the captain of his ship. Bravo then puts Kruger in an airplane spin before the side slam gets the win (0:58). After the match, Earthquake hits a pair of splashes
Thoughts: The Tugboat/Bravo feud continues but Vince really sold what happened to Jake during the previous segment.
Survivor Series Report with Gene Okerlund. We learn of two matches which are The Warriors (Ultimate Warrior & Texas Tornado & Legion of Doom) vs. The Perfect Team (Mr. Perfect & Demolition) and The Hulkamaniacs (Hulk Hogan & Jim Duggan & Tugboat & Big Bossman) vs. The Natural Disasters (Earthquake & Dino Bravo & Rick Rude & The Barbarian). Also, Okerlund tells us that at the end of the night, all of the survivors will be brought back for an ultimate match of survival and we will see what hatches from the giant egg.
Vince alerts us that Jake has been taken out of the arena to seek medical attention.
Tom Stone vs. Big Bossman
Stone cheap shots Bossman, who tells him to do it again. Bossman catches a kick then takes him down as the announcers talk about the Survivor Series matches. We then hear from Rick Rude in an insert promo with Heenan standing behind him as he dares Bossman to come and shut him up. Bossman stays in control then puts Stone away with a sidewalk slam (1:33). After the match, Bossman heads backstage as he calls Rude a “punk” and says he is coming after him soon.
Thoughts: An easy win for Bossman whose program with Rick Rude continues to heat up.
In action next week are Saba Simba, Orient Express, Jim Duggan, and Demolition. Plus, a Survivor Series report, Ultimate Warrior on the “Brother Love Show,” and an update on the condition of Jake Roberts.
Final Thoughts: A newsworthy show this week. We learned of the first two Survivor Series matches and the news of the “Ultimate Survival Match” at the end of the show. Plus, there is a giant turkey egg that will hatch at the PPV. Also, the Brother Love Show segment was big as Jake had Arrogance sprayed in his eye and that would kick off a lengthy feud between the two. Overall, a fun show.
