When Did Kayfabe Die In The WWE?

When would you say kayfabe officially died in the WWE? I remember when they started "Tough Enough" and HHH was very outspoken against the whole concept, saying it "exposed the business." Now he and his wife are actually referring to themselves as "playing characters" when they do interviews outside the company.
Kayfabe died in the 80s, when Vince McMahon personally went from state legislature to state legislature to proclaim that wrestling was a work in order to avoid paying taxes.
