Brawl for All

I recently rewatched a lot of 1998 WWF, including the Brawl for All matches. While it obviously was a huge mistake to have trained pro wrestlers try to fight for real, is the basic fighting concept of Brawl for All workable? I liked the structure of quick matches + boxing + takedowns, and it seems like it might have taken off if utilized by a different set of athletes. Or am I being misled by Vince Russo pixie dust?
