Mr. Wonderful follow up
By Scott Keith on 1 April 2017
Following up on my last question. What do you think happens to Mr. Wonderful if his neck never gives out? Could you see him headlining B shows?
Sign of the times: It’s Wrestlemania weekend and everyone is like "Hey, let’s talk about Paul Orndorff and Ricky Steamboat in 1987!"
Anyway, yeah, I think the neck injury definitely derailed things for him. Although the Hogan feud COMPLETELY burned him out as a main eventer by that point, the babyface turn could have left him as a solid #2 guy behind Hogan for a few years yet, and he would have been an easy B-show main eventer. That being said, 1988 would have been tough for him because they were going bang-bang with alternating Hogan and Savage shows every night, but Orndorff could have slotted in doing the Piper-ish replacement top guy role when they needed one, like Dusty Rhodes did.
