X-Pac Heat

Curious when Sean Waltman went from a clear fan-favorite to someone people were generally bored and annoyed by. Was definitely way over in 98-mid 99. What happened?

​For me, it was the Kane breakup and feud, where he became this completely stale character. There was a lot of people hoping they’d go in the direction of Kane joining D-X and doing some kind of major shift for the character to pay off the story (it was of course a popular rumor) ​but then instead of giving people a satisfying story payoff, they just had X-Pac turn heel again and go back to the same annoying character people were sick of in WCW. Like, I don’t think it’s a huge coincidence that Sean is an awesome babyface that gets over in that role, but as a heel people are always bored by him.
