Originally, this match was supposed to have included The Ultimate Warrior, but the WWF fired Warrior and was replaced by a returning Sycho Sid. HBK was the WWF Champion at this point, and Vader was being lined up as his next challenger. Vader was being managed by Jim Cornette, and his other charges included The British Bulldog and Owen Hart. Ahmed Johnson was the Intercontinental Champion here and had been siding with HBK against Camp Cornette leading up this match, which set the stage for Summerslam ’96.
