I was trying to get caught up with Nitro again before I went back to these, but I just can’t resist.
The cheesy opening for the show that talked about Arsenio Hall and Oprah is gone. Vince McMahon welcomes fans to a new format where he sits at the head of a table. Gorilla Monsoon and Roddy Piper are to his right and Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect are to his left.
The participants debate Sid Justice’s injury. Piper argues that Sid should show up to Survivor Series with his cast on, while Heenan and Perfect dismiss that because WWF President Jack Tunney will not allow for that to happen. Monsoon adds that Tunney needs to make a decision about Randy Savage’s reinstatement so the Big Bossman and the Legion of Doom can plan strategy for their elimination match.

I’ve never watched WrestleFest 1988 in full before but I have seen the Main Event. That actually won’t change here as I’m watching the Silver Vision version and I believe they cut some of the matches out. This was a big stadium show where Andre The Giant and Hulk Hogan would seemingly settle their long running feud inside a Steel Cage. I think this might have been their last big singles match together but they would face off in tag team matches after this show.

Heenan says that Randy Savage was denied reinstatement because he did not bribe WWF President Jack Tunney. When Monsoon says he saw a weakening in Tunney’s position, Heenan adds that this just means Tunney is now open to being bribed with credit cards or frequent flyer miles.
Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper, and Randy Savage are on commentary, concluding the tapings from Wheeling, West Virginia. McMahon announces that Savage’s second attempt at reinstatement failed.

I reviewed a bad WWF/E show last week so let’s redress the balance by reviewing a better one in the form of No Way Out 2000. The big selling point for this show is that Cactus Jack is putting his career on the line in a Hell in a Cell match with WWF Champion Triple H. Aside from that, we’ve got Rock putting his WrestleMania 2000 Title shot on the line against The Big Show whilst European Champ Kurt Angle tries to win the WWF Intercontinental Title from Chris Jericho in order to become the third Euro-Continental Champion in company history.
Vince McMahon apparently credited this as the only buy rate Mick Foley ever drew, which seems a bit unfair when you consider how Foley played his part in more than one major pay per view match during the WWF’s hot streak.

Anyway, this is a tape that I’ve definitely seen before at some point in the past, but never reviewed. But a frequent reader wrote in to request it, so now is as good of a time as any. This one is from 1993, during the period when they were experimenting with weird names for the tapes like “Bashed in the USA” and “Invasion of the Bodyslammers”, just in case you really wanted to make sure people made fun of you for watching this wrestling crap.
