wrong

So what is actually going wrong ?

12th December 2014 by Scott Keith
Hey Scott,

Longtime fan boa bla. I’m listening to JR and Keller review Survivor Series. So much of what they are saying about booking in the company makes so much sense and I just get really confused as to how it doesn’t translate onto TV. Sure these crappy soap writers know nothing about booking and only coming up with subpar tropes we’d see on The CW but if Vince is the be all and end all and rewrites and has final say then why isn’t it the TV better ? Surely Vince knows basic booking 101 from his many many years in the business and the success he has had and I could possibly say the same for HHH coming from the background of being a worker himself. So if Vince and Hunter are the two making the final decisions then why is everything so crappy ?

Has Vince completely lost his mojo and HHH doesn’t have enough influence to get sensible booking by him or are they both just too blinded by the whole PG, corporate, public company landscape they are in that they aren’t willing to try any formulas that have worked so well in the past i.e continuity of storyline, making people actually give a shit about titles and mid card talent as opposed to just Cena, Orton and I’m assuming Reigns once he’s shoved down our throat.

Thanks,

Basically Vince should watch NXT Takeover and do everything like THAT instead of how he's been doing it.  Clearly if Vince oversees the main product and it's so shitty, whereas HHH oversees NXT and it's awesome, then we can tell where the fundamental problem lies.  Last night's show addressed all of your complaints and showed exactly how RAW should have been treated all year.

QOTD 149: I was Wrong, Hooray!

3rd May 2014 by Scott Keith

I don’t wanna blow smoke up anyone’s ass, but The Amazing Spider-man 2 is pretty goddamn awesome.

The scene depicted toward the left is probably the coolest, cheesiest, most-uplifting, bad-ass thing I’ve seen in a Spider-man movie.

Heck, during Spider-man and Electro’s first fight, Electro’s inner monologue turns into a dubstep song about killing Spidey.

What’s nuts is that it all works really well, and I HATED the first movie. Even better – at one point I predicted this movie would end in the way I thought it would, but I actually liked how they pulled it off here.

Thus:

Have you ever been happily proven wrong about a pro-wrestler, wrestling match, PPV, or match type? What about a series you expected to hate but ended up enjoying, or a book you had to read in school, etc?

Is it me? Am I wrong?

31st December 2013 by Scott Keith
Tonight's finish just seems like someone in the back making sure Daniel Bryan stops being over.  He was their biggest face and they do THIS.  And now your Doomers are saying I'm overreacting and just being a smark bitch.  NO!  How can you justify this?  How can THEY?

I'm baffled, Scott.  This is such an awful decision…

I think it's disappointing that they had this idea for Bryan and they're bullheadedly going with it no matter how much the crowd rejects it, but it's certainly not out of character or unexpected by them.  The days of Vince giving a shit about his fanbase are long, long gone.

Heel turns gone wrong

25th June 2012 by Scott Keith

So at the ROH I-PPV best in the world Kevin Steen cut a Heel promo eviscerating the crowd for being hypocrites and going so far as to yell FUCK NEW YORK! in the Hammerstein.  all i could think of when the crowd refused to boo him regardless of what he said was the monster pop Austin got after beating the Rock at wrestle mania as the result of going heel. If you've commited to a big heel turn where you say Fuck the fans (literately in Steen's case) and the crowd won't hate them, how do you fix it.  I only know about the Austin example through DVD's and the near universal agreement heel Austin didn't work since it was before my fandom, so i can't even look back on that for comparison in the long term.  I guess  my question is this, if you turn your top baby face Heel, but the crowd still reacts like he's the top baby face how do you fix it, you can't just take what they said to turn heel back can you?

The first time Austin had that problem they just turned him into the top babyface and drew billions of dollars.  I don't see ROH drawing significant money with Steen, but I don't see why they can't just run with him as a babyface who insults the crowd.  What booker in their right mind would look at the top guy in the promotion getting monster reactions and go "Shit, we gotta FIX this!"?
The Austin thing was different, because it went beyond the heel turn at Wrestlemania and carried into changing the character into something that people didn't want to pay money to see, the spineless and self-loathing jellyfish who needed emotional support from his former arch-enemy.  It was an awesomely nuanced character played by completely the wrong person for the role.

You’re Stealing It Wrong…

9th September 2011 by Scott Keith

http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/69561 An older article, sure, but I came across it while doing my usual random surfing of Mental Floss and I found the presentation by Jason Scott to be pretty engrossing.  For those of us who used to hang out on local BBSs via 2400 baud modems, this is a great trip down memory lane.  Basically it’s a video of Jason giving a talk at a computer convention, delivering an entertaining hour-long history of various software pirate groups and how it evolved into what it became today.  Sadly he only really gets rolling just before he runs out of time, but I’d love to see a full-length talk from the guy on the subject, because he turns a potentially dry subject into a humorous conversational chat.  It’s great stuff.
