Warrior — page 2

The Ultimate Warrior in the HOF

11th December 2013 by Scott Keith
Hey Scott, there's news out today of the WWE releasing a three disc DVD, two disc blu-ray, set about the Ultimate Warrior, with the Warrior possibly being interviewed and involved in the set. The set comes out in April 2014. This news, along with the thawing of relations between Warrior and Vince McMahon, make it seem like there's a good possibility that Warrior goes in the HOF in 2014. This got me thinking, with all the Authority stuff and Triple H self-aggrandizement that is happening, wouldn't it be great if the Warrior ran out and attacked Triple H at Wrestlemania 30 during whatever match HHH is in, followed by the Warrior no-selling the pedigree, just like at Wrestlemania 12, then beating the hell out of HHH, causing HHH to be pinned by whoever his opponent is? I think that would be a great cap to the "HHH is the greatest ever" angle, and an excellent little easter egg for long time fans. What do you think?
After careful consideration, I'm gonna have to go with "No."

WWE 13 Wrestlemania 7 Macho Man vs The Ultimate Warrior

26th October 2013 by Scott Keith

Hiya Scott,

Some daft fella has put Warrior/Savage 1991 into WWE 13, and it’s brilliant! Makes me wonder why they don’t just lift the original commentary from PPVs and stick it into those ‘Best of the Attitude Era/Wrestlemania’ modes on the games…

I don’t think technology has advanced that far quite yet.  This was quite the editing job, though.  Too bad the angle at the end couldn’t have been put in there too, but kudos to whoever put this together.

DB Warrior

22nd June 2013 by Scott Keith

I don’t know if it’s the “Flight of the Valkyries” song or what, but Daniel Bryan reminds me of The Ultimate Warrior in a strange way. He isn’t HGHed out or anything (actually he’s one of the rare examples of someone who you can be totally sure isn’t) and is a much better worker. That said, he has a visceral energy that really brings something out of the crowd in a very simple way. Is he this generation’s smark Warrior?
“

I would not have made that comparison, personally.

Match of the Day: Randy Savage v. Ultimate Warrior

28th March 2013 by Scott Keith

Not sure if you are still doing Match of the Day. Here is a cool one from January 89 – a rare title defense from Macho Man’s first title run. HEEL Savage vs. ultimate Warrior. Very cool match

I swear they’re still kicking themselves for not finding a way to stretch out heel Savage’s title run, because he was drawing nuclear heat as champion.  How crazy is it that Savage’s heel turn, on one of the most-watched wrestling programs in history, was in February and then he lost the belt in APRIL?  They literally took the belt off him a MONTH after making the biggest heel in wrestling.  Still blows my mind.

What was the plan for the Warrior back in 96′ before he abruptly left?

3rd February 2013 by Scott Keith
Hey Scott,

I was wondering if you knew anything about the plans for the Warrior if he didn't abruptly leave in 1996? I saw a live show poster advertising him as WWF champion going against Vader… was that the long-term aim? I know before he left he was scheduled too be part of the six man tag main event at the July In Your House PPV, was this going to lead too a Summerslam match against Shawn for the title? Can your wisdom and knowledge reveal any more details?

I have no specific insight on it, but having him put over Shawn at Summerslam sounds right  Not sure what else they could have possibly used him for?

Warrior Title Reign

18th November 2012 by Scott Keith

Scott,

When Warrior won the WWF Title from Hogan at Wrestlemania 6, he never really got the chance to carry the company on his own.  Instead of shooting movies, Hogan stuck around for the feud with Earthquake, which was given a main-event build, and Hulkamania never really stopped running wild.  Do you think Warrior could have been The Guy if Hogan had stepped out of the way?  Say, if Earthquake is built up as the unstoppable monster for Warrior to beat at SummerSlam 1990 while Hogan takes time away from the product?  If the show tanks, without the almighty Hulk, they can always audible back to a Hogan-Warrior rematch or go the Slaughter route (which we got), but it seems Warrior should have had a chance to carry things alone as champ.  If not, then why bother with the clean Hogan job to begin with?

Because they thought he was The Guy, but much like Sting, once he got there they discovered that he was not.  I was as big of a fan of the guy as anyone, but with Warrior the money was in the chase, and once he got there his story had been told.  Even 16 year old me, who was as big a supporter of the guy as anyone, could tell that something was missing, especially in feuds like the Rude one where it wasn't a particularly captivating program.  I think that if they had a better feud for him earlier, like the Macho Man program BEFORE he lost the belt, they could have made people care.  But beating up generic heels like Dino Bravo every night and trying to use him to rebuild Rick Rude just wasn't going to make him into a giant money-making machine.  Say what you will about Hogan, but he had charisma by the buckets and really came across as a champion.  Warrior just never did.
