WCW “Revolution” reboot promo from 2001

16th December 2013 by Scott Keith
Thought this was interesting. Apparently it was a promo WWE produced in the spring of 2001 when they were still going to run WCW as a separate brand.

-Paul.
Yeah, they had touring schedules and advertising and tickets printed and everything.  That's why the Tacoma RAW cost them so damn much money when Vince changed his mind on a whim.

Promo of the Day — Rock/Austin 11/12/01

25th November 2013 by Scott Keith
From the go-home RAW heading into Survivor Series 2001. This is still one of my favorite promos to date, with an almost surreal "house show" feel that you don't see much nowadays; you give John Cena a mic and 15 minutes to fill and you're going to end up with weak self-deprecation and Call of Duty jokes. WWE also put this up on their own channel but I prefer the unbleeped version, you SSSS—SSSS—SSSSUMMMMMBITCH!

ZOMG, I so wish Rock would do Austin's podcast for a 16 part series.  It would be EPIC.

A Promo of the Day: “We’re Just Talking About Video Games”

24th October 2013 by Scott Keith

I might have thrown this one up before, don’t remember. Punk and Austin trying to hype up WWE ’13. Austin channels his 1996-early 1997 persona by just being miserable and annoyed the whole time. Ross plays his role perfectly, being somewhat of a passive aggressive instigator. Was it just about the video game or were these guys possibly planting the seeds for something bigger that didn’t come to fruition? Either way everyone seemed to be in good form here although I almost forgot the calm, babyface version of Punk.

Promo of the Day: One-Eyed Dusty

21st October 2013 by Scott Keith

Now that I have a Stone Cold Steve Austin podcast I need a Dusty Rhodes podcast to complete my life. He doesn’t need to have guests on…just cut promos on random shit. Dusty can talk about why he hates shopping at Trader Joe’s and I’d listen.

Promo of the Day: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin

18th October 2013 by Scott Keith
This is Stone Cold Steve Austin on LiveWire right before Bret comes back to face him in the critically acclaimed Survivor Series 96 match.

Can we get a 2013 Scott Sez? What happened to that gimmick? Did it go to the red-hot "Abeyance"?

Anyways, great live promo work from Steve as he is running the gamut. He is hard-selling Bret's return. He is making you laugh. He is making you want to see him get his ass kicked as well at the PPV. It just shows that, while not a "money promo", he is using his time on camera to the fullest of his ability.

Toad Pedophile and Sunny (looking great in the whore-red lipstick) are virtual non-factors as soon as Austin comes on set.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tibDfZ0llJQ

As an aside, how awesome would you think Austin would have been with no neck injury? The knees would probably been shot to shit, but 2000 with Austin? Does HHH ascend and have the critically acclaimed year he has? Does Mick become 3 time champ? Does Rock host SNL and start the process to becoming a crossover star?

Your thoughts… as well as the rest of the midcarders and Obi-Wan Jabronis from the BoD.
Imagine Austin's resurgence in 2001 with Angle and multiply that over the years he was active, and that's how awesome he would have been if he didn't have the neck of a crippled 80 year old.
And really, when DIDN'T Sunny look great in 1996?

Take care.

Ha, I’ve been waiting for someone to rip off Ricky Bobby.  Kudos.

Promo of the Day! Bobby Heenan at the Hall

27th September 2013 by Scott Keith

Since there were so many good memories after reading Bayless’ transcript of his shoot 12 years ago I figured I’d pop up his full HoF speech. His voice is affected by his cancer but he’s still the Brain. Have a wonderful weekend BoD’ers!

Promo of the Day: JASON THE TERRIBLE // ZODIAK

26th September 2013 by Scott Keith

This is certainly a masterpiece. Of what, I have no idea, but its a goddamn masterpiece.

Care to provide a little context on The Zodiak and Jason The Terrible for the confused bloggers? I tried to find your Stampede tape review that documented this, but 411mania is kneeing my browser in its 0101011100001s and won’t load for some reason.

Sure.  Zodiak is Randy Orton’s fuckup uncle Barry (aka 80s jobber Barry O), banished to Stampede at the tail end of his wrestling career and living out whatever drug-induced fantasies Bruce Hart was experiencing that week.  Jason the Terrible was the uber-mega-monster heel set up for the Hart boys to triumph over (journeyman Karl Moffat), although as a kid he scared the SHIT out of me and I was sure he was going to kill Owen Hart and take the North American title with ease.  Mr. Hito even wore BOOTS because he was afraid of having his feet stepped on!  Sadly, a pretty horrific car accident with Davey Boy Smith ended Moffat’s wrestling career when he shattered his leg, and he was never the same after that.

But yeah, they used to do these trippy promos, on ultra-conservative Stampede TV no less in 1987, and this stuff was WAY ahead of its time.  In the end, Jason lost to Owen Hart (or Bruce and Pillman, I forget how they blew it off in the end) and the mysterious Zodiak, who was being built up as a big name in wrestling, was just unmasked and Ed Whalen was like “Oh, it’s Barry O” and that was that.  It was a hell of a deal while it lasted, however, one of the most vivid memories I have of the promotion.

Promo of the Day: Ric Flair Flossy

24th September 2013 by Scott Keith

Scott,

Always have appreciated your work and have been a long-time blog follower.

To me, there aren’t many things better than a good ol’ mid-80s Flair promo.  I love how he covers multiple challengers for the belt, gives them all a bit of a rub while also tearing them down a bit … and then ad lib destroys the hell out of Landel and JJ to finish it off.  Good times!

Yeah, Flair was always great in these because he was “burying” his opponents with stuff that was so ridiculous that anyone would be able to see through and tell how jealous he was.  Like when he’d mock Magnum’s “skinny little arms” or the hordes of pre-teen girls who cheered for Ricky Morton.  It was all stuff that made fans go “Man, Flair is a delusional jerk” and made people want to see him get beat, and didn’t tarnish the babyfaces.  I mean, obviously, look at Magnum, he’s tossing 300 pound guys around with the belly to belly, his arms were obviously not skinny.
Now, you have Vince McMahon and his surrogates telling Daniel Bryan that he’s too small and not good for business.  What counter-argument can fans make against that?  Clearly he IS small, and given we don’t have access to WWE’s financial information, who are we to say he’s not bad for business?  HHH in particular is the worst for it, because he buries guys with stuff that is specifically true and doesn’t leave himself open for comebacks by the babyface.  That was a huge problem with the Punk feud in 2011 as well.
Anyway, tl;dr, 80s Flair rules.

Promo of the Day: WWE- Conversations during matches

16th September 2013 by Scott Keith

Hey, thought this was neato.  Love the bits where they respond to the fans.

Dave Batista yelling “I HATE YOU TOO” makes me miss him EVEN MORE.  He was truly one of the greatest men who ever lived during his time as a heel champion.

Georgia Wrestling: AWESOME Roddy Piper promo

8th September 2013 by Scott Keith

Here is an insane promo from Piper that he cut on Buzz Sawyer while in Georgia Championship Wrestling. The end of this video is something else.

This one raises the question of how Buzz Sawyer managed to do enough drugs to die, but RODDY PIPER is still alive to this die.  How much blow was this dude on?
