Biggest pops?

> Big fan, following you since the wrestleline days, blah blah blah. Anyway, I'm, by all accounts, a very casual fan, but I just re-watched the Ziggler cashing in video on YouTube and I was curious, what do you think the biggest pops have been? I'm guessing Summerslam 88's Warrior win would be up there (mostly because that was the only PPV I've ever paid for), but I wanted some cool ones I could look up on YouTube.

Look up Luger and Windham beating Tully and Arn at Clash of the Champions #1, for one. Brock's return after Wrestlemania last year was huge. Steamboat beating Flair at Chitown Rumble 89. Punk beating Cena in Chicago. Jerry Lawler beating Curt Hennig for the World title in Memphis. Hulk Hogan's comeback spot in the Rock match at WM 18. That's a good start.
Biggest jerk in wrestling?
I’m talking in real life, not kayfabe.
For me, I’d have to go with Triple H. He’s been a prick his entire run and has had NUMEROUS instances of such.
–
Being the leader against Jericho when he first got there. Saying on
national TV that Jericho can’t work.- The shit with Booker T from WM19
– Insisting he could get a great match out of Steiner and forcing people to watch TWO PPV main events.
– awarding himself the title
– doing certain things like on a live Raw, Chris Masters, who’d come back after battling drug addiction, and getting of the juice, said something like “Maybe one day I’ll write a book” and Triple H says “What? How to lose 45lbs in 6 weeks?” Despite the fact it’s been obvious that Triple H has been
on a ton of PEDs [performance enhancing drugs]
– having himself beat Brock Lesnar at the biggest show of the year
– having his good buddy Kevin Nash headline THREE ppvs with him when there were numerous others would deserved the spot back in 2004.
– turning the Summer of Punk into a match with him and Nash
How say you?
Biggest Heat
Wrestling’s biggest busts
who was the biggest bust among high draft choices in the NFL and NBA.
Who do you and the rest of the BofDers think was the biggest bust in
wrestling? I'll throw a few names out there just to get us all
started…
Tiger Ali Singh: The guy who inspired me to write this email, and my
pick for the Ryan Leaf (I know you don't know who Ryan Leaf is, Scott,
but you and the rest of the non-American BODers, can look him up on
Wikipedia) of wrestling. Tons of hype, airtime, and money invested,
and he amounted to absolutely NOTHING, thanks to a total lack of
ability.
Teddy Hart: Talented, could make money just off being related to a
bunch of good workers, is now pretty much blackballed from wresting in
the US because he's a giant douche.
Mark Henry: Would have easily been #1 here if not for him getting
pretty decent over the last couple years. Even so, has not even come
close to making up the money that was invested in him, though he's
still got time.
Scott Hall: Not in the same league as the guys above, but still would
be considered a bust. Should have been a multiple-time world champ,
instead drug issues make him famous for either being second fiddle to
Kevin Nash or as a euphemism for being totally bombed. Seriously, even
most non-wrestling fans know what "He's drunker than Scott Hall"
means.
Bam Bam Bigelow:Should have been great but somehow wasn't. I still
have no idea why… Yeah, he sucked on the mic, but that's why we have
managers.
I'm sure you and the rest of the blog can come up with much better examples.
Dan Gheesling’s biggest mistake
Well, no real shock that Dan was annihilated by Ian in the final two. But I don't really think it was a massive dropping of the ball as much as his biggest mistake has to go back to the final 4. I think he really over thought the Shane is a threat deal – He had his shot to take out Ian but chose to take out Shane instead. With a final 3 of Shane and Danielle, I think he has a higher probability of winning the HOH. However, he still might end up being the victim of the bitter jury. All in all you can't play the game that Dan played and end up against a player like Ian, you will just get crushed every time. Frustrating end to an amazing season, but it is what it is. I was more shocked that Frank won the America's vote.
Biggest Pops
My apologies if you recently posted a similar thread, but the "Best Austin/Rock Moment" discussion (which linked to Austin helping Foley win the title for the first time) definitely got me wondering what the biggest pops ever were. #1 has GOT to be the Harts at "Canadian Stampede", right? Probably followed by the aforementioned Austin run-in. Where does Punk at last year's "Money In The Bank" fall? Jericho's WWE debut? Trips' return in 2002? Sting finally declaring his allegiance to WCW against the nWo? And what about Hogan-era ovations? I mean, I've been a wrestling fan for over twenty-five years, but I really don't remember audiences being quite as "rowdy" back then. They'd cheer, sure, but they didn't really go nuts in their seats like they did during the late-90's.
One that always stuck out to me, odd as it may seem, was Shane McMahon's return at "No Way Out, 2000". The audience went almost as crazy for him as they did for Austin's run-in during the Rock/Foley match.

Vince McMahon – World’s biggest mark!
———- Forwarded message ———-
To: <[email protected]> Is it just me or is Vince McMahon himself the world's biggest mark? I mean, he absolutely refuses to make his guys look even slightly inferior to anyone, even if it will make him a boat-load of money. See Invasion, The – WCW guy vs WWF guy – WWF dominant! Even Sara Undertaker pinned DDP! Now Lesnar, Brock – UFC guy vs WWE guy – WWE guy wins, even if it's bad for business. Heaven forbid the WCW guys or the UFC guy look superior – Even though they ALL WORK FOR HIM!!! Work of course being the key word there. ——————- Hey now, don't be so negative. Let this Invasion thing play out and see where it goes!
Biggest Matches
Not sure which superlative I should be using, but it dawned on me while watching Survivor Series that R-Truth had the most important/biggest match of his career. Hell, Miz too, moreso than the WM main event. And while we’re at it, Cena will have his in next March. But what about Rock? What about Austin? What about Triple H? What about Flair? Taker? Bret? Shawn? Nash? Hall? Angle? Funk? Some I think are no brainers: Foley, HIAC. Hogan’s, I’d assume, was III against Andre, and in reverse. Goldberg, versus Hogan on Nitro. Big Show, against Mayweather; the same breath, Bam Bam, against LT. CM Punk, I’d say Money In The Bank.
Your logical thoughts on this?
Interesting topic. I don’t think Miz has had his yet. They’ll find something bigger for him, I’m pretty sure. Rock: I’m gonna go outside the box and say HHH at Backlash 2000. It was really the culmination of his entire babyface turn in 1999 and provided the logical payoff for the entire year. He never had another bigger “big bad heel against virtuous babyface” because the Austin match was two babyfaces and ended badly for him anyway. Austin: Wrestlemania XV. They made so much money in 99-2000 off Austin that they were able to take the company public, and this is the real start of it. 98 was a bunch of stop and start title reigns for him, but after he beat the Rock he was clearly the guy with the belt. HHH: Royal Rumble 2000. He went from here to HERE in one fell swoop. Flair: Royal Rumble 92, duh. Undertaker: I think the Shawn Michaels match at Wrestlemania was pretty big, but HIAC against Foley of course was a hugely legendary match for a variety of reasons. Tough call.
