http://wrestling.insidepulse.com/2011/09/28/wednesday-morning-backlash-daniel-bryan-money-in-the-bank-and-wwe-wrestlemania-28/ I think Aaron is nuts if he thinks Bryan actually gets to wrestle at WM, let alone challenge for the World title. Bryan turns heel and loses the briefcase to a babyface within the next month or two, I’m betting. Their flirtation with caring about him as anything but an enhancement guy is long past.

Blandy Boreton?
Hey Scott, I was doing some reading, and I noticed that a cavalcade of legends including Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Kurt Angle and John Cena (he’s a legend) have all praised Orton’s skill in the ring, calling him the best wrestler in WWE and all this other stuff. I know that part of it has to be WWE building up Randy Orton as a legend, but some of these comments are made by guys outside of the company. So it’s more than just politics.
Okay, I don’t want to bash Randy Orton, but this needs to be said. Randy Orton isn’t that good. Mildly above average, maybe. But he’s never elevated a crappy wrestler to a good match. So what about Orton makes all these guys praise him? Is it his "crispness" and "cleanness" that marks him as a safe wrestler? Cause after the Rhodes incident, that can’t be the case. I just don’t get why such a boring wrestler is praised as an in-ring genius. And before anybody makes Benoit, Hart, Bryan or Malenko jokes, they were never "boring" inside the ring, they showed an intensity and passion that Orton just doesn’t have.
So, I have to plumb the depths of your wrestling knowledge and ask you. Why do legends praise Randy Orton as the best wrestler in the world when from where I’m standing he’s a thoroughly bland and pablum worker?
Well, I wouldn’t go THAT far. He is certainly someone with major issues for being in such a high position, however. He’s supposed to be the top babyface, but he doesn’t really have believable comebacks or make you care about his plight. He’s also, like most of the guys who come up through the system, a bit stiff and robotic in the way the match flows. It’s like in the AKI WWF games, where the AI would suddenly decide that now was the time for the block, now was the time for the comeback, and there’s not much you can do about it. He’s basically a human video game character.

CM Punk does not equal buys
Oh, forgot to add to the RAW rant: The buyrate for Summerslam is in, and people are gonna be out on the street as a result. 300K worldwide, which is down from 350 the year before. That’s about 175 domestic, or in other words PPV is dying fast for the company and they either need to do something wacky like remember how to sell the product, or else they need a huge new revenue stream to replace it. I would not want to be around Vince right now, I’ll say that much.

The SmarK RAW Supershow Rant–09.26.11
http://wp.me/pgJLq-xA6 Notice how we’re a few weeks into the SUPERSHOW era and now the Smackdown guys are just a bunch of random geeks like everyone else on the show? Suffice it to say, I will not be wasting money on this PPV.

Boardwalk Empire
Hey Scott, I was just wondering if you’ve checked out Boardwalk Empire. I’ll admit that it took me awhile (and HBO OnDemand) to get hooked, but it’s a pretty decent spiritual successor toThe Sopranos. I’m still not 100% sold on Steve Buscemi as the lead, but everything else is top-notch. Just wondering about your thoughts (if any) and anyone else on the blog who happens to be a fan.
Although I enjoyed the violence and sex, and I’m generally a gangster movie aficionado, I found it difficult to connect with any of the characters and dropped out after the fifth episode. It just didn’t feel like anything was happening to me. Really, the only thing I was watching on HBO lately was True Blood.

Best Writing Years
Hello Scott,
Long time fan, bought all your book…. sorry for my bad english but i’m french.
everybody like your new Impact wrestling rant and the fact that we find again your unique writing style.
I wanted to know what is your favorite writing year since you write on the internet ? I really really like your rants on 2002 and 2003, That why Wrestling’s one ring circus is my favorite of the four book.
What year do you feel your writing was the best or in what year did you take the most fun of writing ?
1998 for sure. Thunder was a terrible show, but it just gave me endless material to work with. Plus it gave me my biggest audience ever with Wrestleline. When I branched out into doing RAW for my own sites, it was the thick of the Austin era and so there was always stuff to talk about there too.

Vince goes completely insane, film at 11
From today’s Observer news update:
WWE sent out a survey question yesterday that was pretty mind-boggling: Imagine a 24-hour cable network that was run by The WWE. It featured a mix of WWE-made programs, including new shows, repeats of Raw and SmackDown from USA and Syfy and "classic" or "historical" programs featuring shows from different promotions like classic WWE footage, WCW, ECW, NWA, AWA, etc. from years past. It would have two new weekly WWE live in-ring shows (wrestling), but not SmackDown or Raw. It would have a daily live in-studio viewer interactive show similar to SportsCenter. Additionally, this network would include WWE’s "classic big 4" pay-per-view events including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble to the lineup at no additional cost. Rather than having to pay for them, they would now be specials with the same match quality you’re used to seeing on pay-per-view for no additional cost. These 4 events would only be available on The WWE Network. In addition to The WWE Network, you would receive approximately 30 additional channels including NFL Network, NBA TV, Biography Channel, Fox Business Network and Fuel TV. How interested would you be in upgrading your service for an additional $7-$12 per month to a tier which would include the WWE Network described above?
You might as well take a pile of cash and burn it on the streets of Greenwich rather than proceed with this retarded idea. WWE 24/7 is already a flop, revenue-wise, and going through with this idea would be SUICIDE for the company and destroy one of their only big revenue sources left. But Vince is determined to launch this stupid network and show up UFC, so there you go.

Best Feud Ever?
Sting and Ric Flair had what could charitably be called a match on the
last Impact show. To my knowledge, they are the only two guys to
wrestle each other in a major promotion (if the AWA in it’s death
throws was still a "major organization", then TNA deserves that title
too!) in four different decades. Does it deserve to be known as the
greatest wrestling feud of all time?
Ninja please. There’s been far more epic and fruitful long-term feuds in wrestling over the years. Such as: – Paul Heyman v. His Creditors – Vince McMahon v. Sanity – Kevin Nash v. Grey Hair – HHH v. that cart on Monday OK, that’s all my joke answers for now. Anyway, the Sting-Flair feud was pretty great up until 2001. Actually I think about the 1995 Flair turn way too much, because I hated it so much back then but it was kind of secretly brilliant. I think that Hogan v. Flair is another contender because they were mostly incapable of having a bad match together and some were even really good, plus it played out over 20 years as well. Probably Undertaker v. Kane too.
