Ricochet Questions If WWE Wanted Him To Stay

By Craig Ballantyne on 17 September 2025

Ricochet doesn’t think WWE tried to keep him in the company before he signed with AEW.

Ricochet first signed with WWE back in 2018 and spent six years in the promotion. While there, the star held the NXT North American Title as well as the United States and Intercontinental Championships. Before leaving in 2024, the star also became the first Speed Champion.

Soon after losing that title to the recently returned Andrade, Ricochet informed WWE he would not be staying after his contract expired. Now, in an interview with Ariel Helwani, he has given insight into his last contract negotiation with the company.

“They Didn’t Really Let Me Know They Wanted Me To Stay” – Ricochet On Leaving WWE

When asked if he thought WWE wanted him to re-sign with them, Ricochet admitted that it felt like they didn’t try to keep him.

“For me, they didn’t try. They made an offer, we just couldn’t agree, okay, I’m out.

“They didn’t, for me at least, they didn’t really let me know they wanted me to stay. Who knows if that would have changed my mind anyway.”

The star clarified that this was just his experience and that WWE may feel differently.

“This is just my experience. They may feel different. I didn’t feel they really sat me down and were like, ‘We want you to stay.’ Everyone has different experiences. That’s just how I felt.”

In June 2024, Ricochet made his AEW debut at All In London as part of the Casino Gauntlet. Since then, the star has turned heel, forming his own faction with Gates of Agony. The trio is set to take on The Hurt Syndicate at All Out in Toronto, Canada, on September 20th.

Should WWE have tried harder to retain Ricochet? Are you glad he made the jump to AEW instead? Let us know your thoughts below!
