Nigel McGuinness Doesn’t Believe Bryan Danielson Will Return To The Ring

By Craig Ballantyne on 2 October 2025

Nigel McGuinness “doesn’t see” Bryan Danielson getting back in the ring.

At WrestleDream 2024, Bryan Danielson lost the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley, bringing an end to his full-time wrestling career. Ahead of the match, Danielson had made a point to say he wasn’t planning to retire completely, leaving the door open for him to wrestle again. However, since then, The American Dragon has shown little interest in competing.

During an appearance on The Magic Of Wrestling, Nigel McGuinness gave his thoughts on the possibility of his longtime rival making an in-ring return. Having recently begun competing again himself, the AEW commentator joked that Danielson might do it out of jealousy.

“I think the only reason he might do that is because he sees me do it, and once again jealousy becomes a factor and he realises ‘I was never as good a wrestler as Nigel when I was full-time, now I could come back…’ so I don’t think so.”

“I Don’t See It Happening” – Nigel McGuinness On Bryan Danielson Wrestling Again

Speaking more seriously, McGuinness said Bryan Danielson is currently enjoying life with his family, adding he might not want to get on the wrong side of his wife, Brie Garcia.

“I think he’s enjoying his life with his kids. He has probably made some sort of promise to his missus in that regard, that would be my guess. He doesn’t want to get on the wrong side of her as well, she clearly wears the pants in the relationship.”

In September, Tony Khan announced that Danielson was joining the Dynamite commentary team full-time. McGuinness believes he’s now transitioning into that role, if only to “steal one more thing” from his rival.

“I don’t see it happening. I think he’s trying to really transition and steal one more thing from me when it comes to commentary, so I don’t see it happening.”

In a recent interview with Wide World of Sports, Danielson didn’t rule out a return to the ring, but said whatever he does, his number one priority will be staying healthy so that he can still play with his kids.
