Christian Cage Believes He Is On His Best Run In AEW

Christian Cage didn’t return to pro wrestling for a greatest hits tour.

In 2014, Christian Cage retired from the ring as a result of multiple concussions sustained over the course of his career. Seven years later, at the 2021 Royal Rumble, Cage returned to the ring as a surprise entrant, but the appearance marked the last time he would be seen in a WWE ring.

That March, Christian made his full-time return in AEW at Revolution. Since then, the star has held the TNT Title twice, and as the leader of The Patriarchy, embarked on an acclaimed heel run.

Reflecting on his time in AEW as The Patriarch in an interview with Uncrowned, Cage claimed that he is on the greatest run of his career.

“This is, without a doubt, the greatest, the best run. Did I see it happening this late? No, but it did.

“And like I said, when I got my career back after being gone for seven years, I wasn’t coming back to do the greatest hits tour. I was coming back to be the best. And that’s the kind of standards that I hold myself to. Anything less than that, you would not see me step foot in that ring.”

Christian Cage Aims To Become AEW World Heavyweight Champion

Recently, Christian Cage reunited with Adam Copeland, and the pair had their first tag team match together since 2011 at Forbidden Door in London, taking down Killswitch and Kip Sabian after the pair turned on Cage.

In return, Christian will help Cope get revenge on FTR at All Out on September 20th. Beyond that, the future is unclear for Cope and Cage as a team.

“Cope and I agreed to help each other with our issues. Part of the agreement was we’ll get through this, and there’s no promises beyond that.”

However, at the end of the day, Christian still only has one goal in mind, to become the AEW World Heavyweight Champion.

“We’ll see where we get to at the end of this. For me as well, at the end of the day, I love collecting titles, I love collecting gold.

“So in any form of that, I’ll always welcome, always accept that challenge. But at the end of the day, I still want my name in the books as the AEW world champ by the time it’s all said and done.”
