AAA Review – 05.23.26
By Niz on 25 May 2026
How did we get here? Let’s see: Raw | NXT | Evolve | Impact | Smackdown | Saturday Night’s Main Event
AAA is live on Youtube from Mexico City, and the American announcing team for tonight’s show will be Corey Graves, John Bradshaw Layfield, and Savio Vega. Why Savio Vega, you ask? THERE’S A REASON but you have to keep on reading. Let’s watch some lucha!
Then, Now, Forever….TOGETHER
Arrivals: Dorian Roldan escorting Marisela Pena, AAA Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid, Rey Fenix, and El Grande Americano Original flanked by Los Hermanos Americanos. Meanwhile, Rayo and Bravo Americano are at an eatery enjoying some delights.
The AAA upper management team are in the ring along with the roster at ringside, except for AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio who is watching the events play out on a monitor. The management team is introduced, including Chessman, Texano Jr, and Ciberneitco (who gets a MASSIVE pop). Dorian Roldan is announced to a chorus of boos, and we take a look at the long history of AAA via a video. The GM is expected to take AAA to heights never seen before. President Marisela Pena is introduced and she gets a nice hand from the crowd after waving to them. Pena says that today begins a new era in AAA’s history and the new GM is a man who is respected all over the world. The new General Manager of AAA is….Rey Mysterio! JBL melts down on commentary, and Dorian Roldan is apoplectic. Mysterio shakes hands with all the talent at ringside while we see a disbelieving Dominik Mysterio in his locker room. Mysterio hugs Pena and tells the crowd that he asked AAA for one opportunity and was given it in the building they’re in right now, and today he returns as the General Manager. A chant breaks out and Mysterio assures the crowd that he’s going to take AAA to another level. Mysterio wants to get going right now, and we’re going to have a match!
AAA Cruiserweight Championship: Laredo Kid (C) vs Rey Fenix
There’s a show of respect to start and Laredo gives a clean break after pushing Fenix to a corner. Laredo lifts a knee and then there’s an armdrag exchange. We reset and there’s a tackle standoff until Laredo hits a massive tope suicida on Fenix. Laredo tosses Fenix back in ascends but Fenix catches the Laredo dive and powerbombs him for two. Laredo has a short flurry and ends it with a neckbreaker and a Michinoku Driver that gets two. Fenix bails to the apron and drapes Laredo throat-first. Laredo prevents some Fenix acrobatics with a slap but gets pushed away by Fenix. Fenix snaps off a rolling cutter that gets two. Fenix hoists Laredo up and waffles him with a sheer drop brainbuster that gets two.
Fenix gets caught with a right but fires a kick off in response. Fenix charges and gets yanked into a Mexican Destroyer DDT that gets two. A slap battle breaks out and then it goes to forearms and kicks. Laredo hits a poison rana which Fenix no-sells only to spring up and drop Laredo with a German. Laredo hits a Superman punch and ascends but Fenix slips out and hits a reverse thrust kick to Laredo’s head. Fenix hoists Laredo up and wants the Muscle Buster but Laredo grabs a quick cradle for two. Fenix ascends and mashes Laredo with a rope walk kick to the head. Laredo appears dazed and Fenix lets him go so the ref can have a look. While the ref is consulting with medical, Laredo hits an uppercut to Fenix’s man region and then kicks him down. Laredo ascends and crushes Fenix with a frog splash that ends things.
Damn, that was quite an opener. I’m not sure it was as good as their non-title match from three weeks ago but the crowd was INTO it and openly groaned at the nut shot that set up the finish. Good work by both guys here and I would assume this finish sets up further contests down the line. 3.5*
Winner AND STILL AAA Cruiserweight Champion – Laredo Kid (Frog Splash)
Post-match sees Laredo celebrating while Fenix looks on forlornly. Graves talks up Noche de los Grandes starting next week in Monterrey and runs down the card.
Laredo Kid is backstage where he meets with Rey Mysterio. Mysterio is frustrated with the way Laredo won and Laredo says a win is a win in response. Mysterio makes a rematch for Noche de los Grandes between Fenix and Laredo and he is very displeased.
El Grande Americano Nuevo‘s serranata highlights are shown and everyone is HYPED.
Street Fight: Los Americanos Hermanos (Bruto and Julio Creedo) vs Rayo and Bravo Americano
JBL tells a stupid convoluted story about the Creeds being legends from Cabo San Lucas and well, JBL has been hit in the head a lot. (In case you have trouble telling Rayo and Bravo apart, Rayo has red highlights on his mask and Bravo has blue highlights.)
Everyone pounds away to start and Julio and Rayo end up in the ring. Rayo hits a seated senton but gets caught in a lofted overhead toss. Bruto comes in and he and Julio hit a combo backbreaker-fallaway slam on Rayo. Bravo flies in with a cross-body on Julio and then drops Bruto with a rana. Bravo fires off some left jabs and then gets caught by a lofted toss from a returning Julio and Bruto. Another four-way fight breaks out and Bruto gets dumped to the floor. Bravo uses Bruto as a staircase to leap over the top rope and cross-body Julio on the floor. Rayo hits a moonsault and Bruto follows with a gigantic cannonball on all three other competitors on the floor. (JBL: “He has the glide path of a sofa!”) Everyone fights on the floor and Bravo gets sent into a ring post by Bruto. Julio dumps Rayo on to a ring step bottom and pulls out some chairs.
Rayo gets dumped in and Los Hermanos are armed with chairs. They crash chairs together and Rayo and Bravo go to work with the chairs. They pound away on Bruto with rights and lefts and then send him face-first into the chair with stereo drop-toe holds. Rayo and Bravo play make-a-wish with Julio’s nards around a ring post and then Bravo finds an El Grande Americano Original pinata. Bravo holds it over Julio’s head and Rayo smashes the whole thing with a Meteora. Rayo and Bravo have a Dudleys Moment and decide to GET THE TABLES. Los Hermanos have recovered finally and start smashing Rayo and Bravo around. Rayo gets brutalized in the ring and mashed by a giant Julio lariat. Bravo is dumped when trying to help, and Julio yanks up Rayo with a chair and slams both of them to the mat. Rayo gets dropped over a chair seat by Bruto and then puts up his hand as he’s bullied around by Los Hermanos. Rayo fires up with some slaps but he gets beat down pretty quickly in response. Bruto yanks Rayo up and Julio smashes him down. Bravo breaks the cover up at two but gets tossed immediately in response.
Rayo is hoisted on to Julio’s shoulders but Bravo attacks Los Hermanos with their own American flag. Bravo hits a huge splash to Julio on the floor and then flies back in to put Bruto in the airplane spin. Bravo reverses it back and then drops Bruto to the mat. Bravo ascends and he and Rayo fly in with diving headbutts. Rayo covers Bruto for two. Rayo starts slugging it out with Bruto and Rayo gets the advantage. Julio flies in he and Bruto catch Rayo and Bravo and mash them together in a Super Collider. Los Hermanos both cover and Rayo and Bravo both kick out at two. Julio ascends quickly but Rayo prevents him from damaging Bravo. Julio reascends like a damn cat and crushes Rayo and Bravo with a double superplex. Bruto hits a moonsault and Julio crushes Bravo with a 450 that he kicks out of at two. Bruto drops the straps and goes to the floor for another table. Bruto sets up the table and he and Julio yank up Rayo. Bravo flies in with a kendo stick that Rayo gets ahold of. Rayo just murders both Hermanos with the kendo stick and Bravor ascends to a top turnbuckle. Bravo hits a splash through the table and Rayo goes to work on Julio with the kendo stick. Rayo holds Julio in a side Russian position with the kendo stick under his throat. Bravo loads up his mask and crushes Julio with a headbutt, but he gets yanked out of the ring by El Grande Americano Original. Original fires Bravo through a table and then mashes Rayo with a right. Original tosses Rayo through the announce table at ringside and and then calls for Los Hermanos.
Here’s El Grande Americano Nuevo out to start absolutely crushing Los Hermanos with chairshots. Original jumps in the ring and the No Physicality rule is tested severely. Nuevo grabs a mic and runs down Original’s list of sins including hurting Pimpinela Escarlata and getting Nuevo’s girlfriend fired. Nuevo calls Original “shorty” and that fires up Original, who removes his ring jacket. Original is wearing a tee-shirt adorned with Nuevo’s girlfriend Andrea Bazarte and Nuevo has to look away. Nuevo shakes with rage and then gets held back by Rayo and Bravo as Los Hermanos hold back Original. They break loose and start firing punches at each other simultaneously and here’s a TON of Security out to try to break this whole thing up. Graves questions what this brawl means for Luchas de Apuestas and JBL insists the match will be off. Here’s Rey Mysterio out to tell everyone to relax because they made his first day as GM a big mess. Mysterio says the match is still on and the brawl breaks out again. The locker room empties to try to help Security and it is BEDLAM. The credits roll and we’re out with Nuevo hurling a chair at Original.
So in the middle of all that the match was thrown out, presumably after the arrivals of EGA-O and EGA-N, and it turned into more of an angle than a match, but MY GOD the heat was just off the charts once they showed up. The match itself was pretty good but there was some downtime as stuff was being set up that kind of took some of the intensity away. I thought the entire segment was just bonkers from start to finish, though, and if you aren’t hyped for next week, I don’t know what to tell you. It’s my most anticipated match of this year so far.
