What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – 11.12.94

Opening Contest: Lex Luger (29-3-1) defeats Gary Scott via submission to the Rebel Rack at 2:17:

Luger slams Scott around and Scott’s attempts to fire back go nowhere. After a backdrop Luger barely avoids botching a powerslam and runs his winning streak to eight after the Rebel Rack.

Owen Hart (38-3) defeats Tony DeVito via submission to the Sharpshooter at 3:11:

Jim Neidhart must have taken the Monday Night RAW loss hard because he is not in Owen’s corner. As Owen works over his opponent Bob Backlund appears near the entrance and nods approvingly. DeVito knees Owen when Owen puts his head down too early on an Irish whip but his blind charge eats boot and Owen rides to a win with a bulldog, missile dropkick, and the Sharpshooter. On his way to the locker room, Owen admires his Sharpshooter on the video screen and tells his brother Bret that he will be submitting to the crossface chicken wing at Survivor Series. For added effect he throws a towel at the video screen to simulate what the British Bulldog will have to do on Bret’s behalf.

Irwin R. Schyster returns to John Dough’s grave, which has had Dough’s coffin exhumed. Since Dough’s family did not pay a burial tax, IRS is going to repossess it. He looks into the empty grave and says that “Being six feet under is not a tax shelter!”

McMahon does an in-ring interview with Yokozuna, Jim Cornette, and Mr. Fuji. Fans enjoy chanting “Casket!” at Yokozuna, who covers his ears. Cornette warns Chuck Norris to stay out of Yokozuna’s way at Survivor Series. He adds that Yokozuna is coming to San Antonio for the Undertaker’s soul.

It is announced that Jim Neidhart will battle the Undertaker on next week’s show.

Bob Holly (25-4-1) pins Roy Raymond with the flying body press at 2:33:

Raymond slams out of an armbar but misses an elbow drop. After doing more arm work, Holly hits Raymond with a nice clothesline and wins with a flying body press.

Todd Pettengill provides another Survivor Series Report. WWF Champion Bret Hart continues to struggle with promos for the feud, arguing that the towel will not be thrown in on his behalf. Chuck Norris warns Yokozuna not to get out of line. Tatanka says that he hates Texas Rangers and tells Norris to stay out of Yokozuna’s way. The Undertaker and Paul Bearer argue that the reason they returned to the WWF was to take Yokozuna’s soul.

Bob Backlund (w/Owen Hart) (9-2) beats Bert Centeno via submission to the crossface chicken wing at 1:27:

Jeremy Hasen is the guest fan ring announcer and Backlund admonishes him for not calling him “Mr. Bob Backlund.” Backlund quickly finishes off Centeno, outwrestling him, slamming him, and locking in the crossface chicken wing. After the bell, Backlund refuses to break the hold until Owen throws in a replica of Bret Hart’s towel.

There is a commercial for the WWF’s new Super Nintendo release, WWF RAW.

Bam Bam Bigelow & Tatanka (w/Ted DiBiase) wrestle the Smoking Gunns (20-2) to a double disqualification at 7:41 shown:

This match stems from the heels beating down Billy on last week’s episode. Bigelow and Tatanka attack the Gunns before the bell but just end up eating a pair of missile dropkicks. Tatanka has to save Bigelow from getting pinned after a double side Russian leg sweep, and after that DiBiase’s Survivor Series squad comes to ringside (minus Jimmy Del Ray) and is followed by Lex Luger’s team. A commercial break chops out Billy being placed in peril. He makes a weak hot tag to Bart after colliding with Bigelow off the ropes. The Gunns give Tatanka a Sidewinder variation where Bart holds Tatanka in a side suplex position and Billy leg drops him. Bart charges Bigelow but ends up on the floor. Then a double disqualification happens due to King Kong Bundy stomping Billy in the ring and Mabel rolling into the squared circle to confront him. The bout’s action was fine while it lasted but the stops and starts due to wrestlers coming out and commercials made it tough to get into. Rating: **

The show goes off the air quickly after the bell rings but there is some token brawling between the two Survivor Series teams.

The Last Word: This show was a bit better than previous weeks because of the quality of the feature match and more hype was placed on Survivor Series, giving the appearance that storylines are going somewhere. Jim Neidhart being matched against the Undertaker next week shows that his main event push is over.
