AAA on Fox Review – 02.28.26
By Niz on 1 March 2026
The week in WWE has been busy, so let’s catch up: Raw | NXT | Evolve | Impact | Smackdown
AAA on Fox comes to the rest of the world on Youtube from The Showcenter Complex in Monterrey, Mexico. The announce team for tonight’s show are Corey Graves, Rey Mysterio, and JBL on match calls and analysis. This show aired directly after the ending of the WWE PLE Elimination Chamber. Let’s watch some wrestling!
Then, Now, Forever….TOGETHER
Highlights of the contract signing between AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio and challenger El Hijo Del Vikingo start the show. Here’s El Grande Americano Nuevo making an entrance to the arena, and Dragon Lee is staring out at the cityscape. AAA Latin American ChampionEl Hijo Del Dr. Wagner Jr. is entering the building as is Ethan Page. Omos, Vikingo, and Dorian Roldan are sharing a few words in a lounge.
El Grande Americano Nuevo (?) gets a HUGE pop from the Monterrey crowd and Rey Mysterio puts over EGA’s spanish speaking as the crowd chants. EGA says it’s great to be home in Monterrey. EGA says we’re not here to talk about EGA-OG because all he wants to do is to steal his colors and people. EGA says OG doesn’t actually know how to speak Spanish and uses AI to do so. EGA says it’s not Monday Night Raw and not the United States, this is Mexico cabron. EGA says there’s a friend of his backstage that can interview in Spanish without filters and AI. Pimpnela Escarlata knocks on EGA-OG’s door and OG asks “Como estas?”. Escarlata asks about “quesadillas with cheese or without” and OG responds “No bueno!” and slams the door. Escarlata breaks in and calls OG fake and false, so OG attacks and puts the boots to Escarlata. We go to commercials.
Highlights are shown of the TJP-Laredo Kid title match from last week’s show. TJP attacked after the Kid retained through nefarious means. Our first match will determine the new number one contender for Kid’s Cruiserweight championship.
AAA Cruiserweight Championship Number One Contender’s Match: Jack Cartwheel vs Dragon Lee
There’s a handshake to start, and Lee offers a clean break after they end up in a corner. Lee works an armlock and Cartwheel uses his acrobatics to finally escape it. Carwheel snaps off a rana but Lee lands on his feet. Cartwheel smashes Lee with a kick after hitting a split to avoid a lariat. Lee pushes Cartwheel into a superkick into his solar plexus. Lee pulls Carthweel over but Cartwheel escapes and hits a pinwheel cover for two. Cartwheel hits a tope con hilo and runs Lee back in. Cartwheel hits a springboard splash and covers Lee for two. Cartwheel shoulders Lee from the apron but Lee immediately responds with a kick that sends Carthwheel to the floor. Lee hits a tope con hilo and runs Cartwheel back in. Lee smashes Cartwheel with a dropkick and then yanks him into a double underhook and double stomp. Lee’s cover gets two. Lee fires off a couple rights and then runs into a Cartwheel Spanish Fly. Cartwheel’s cover gets two. Cartwheel gets mashed by Lee kneelift but Cartwheel lands on his feet when Lee tries a dragon suplex. Cartwheel hits a stunner and then runs into Lee’s sit-out Liger Bomb. Lee’s cover gets two as everyone is stunned. Lee walks into a Cartwheel superkick and poison rana, and Cartwheel hits a twisting Phoenix splash that gets two. Cartwheel ascends and Lee catches him off the dive. Lee pulls Cartwheel into a Styles Clash that gets two. Lee heads to the apron and Cartwheel catches him with a right before he can ascend. Cartwheel hits a kaman giri that drops Lee and then smashes him with a right. Cartwheel ascends to the top and wants a rana, but Lee stops it and crushes Cartwheel with a double stomp. Lee hits a shotgun dropkick and then hits Operation Dragon for three.
Okay, we’re starting with a full on cruiserweight war to start this evening’s in-ring festivities, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Cartwheel’s athleticism is off the charts and Lee gets to work in his more favored environment with a straight lucha contest. This was great fun and Lee and Laredo Kid should have a solid title match when that finally happens. 3.5*
Winner and new Number One Contender for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship – Dragon Lee (Operation Dragon)
Lee addresses the crowd post-match and says he wants the match tonight, but here’s TJP out from the back to question that Lee is actually the number one contender? TJP says he’s number one because Laredo likes to cheat and that no one in Monterrey actually likes Lee. Here’s AAA Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid out to smash TJP around before turning to go face to face with Dragon Lee. TJP hits Lee from behind, and Lee gets dumped to the apron. Kid wallops TJP in a corner and then runs into a Lee superkick. Cartwheel comes flying in with a missile dropkick on Kid. Cartwheel snatches up the title belt and holds it aloft.
A medico says that Pimpinela Escarlata is having “cervical issues” as we go to commercials.
Dorian Roldan talks up Omos, and Vikingo asks Roldan if he thinks he’s going to win this evening’s main event. Roldan confirms that and that Vikingo will win the title from Mysterio. Roldan promises that even if Omos wins the sword at Rey de Reyes and Vikingo wins the title they’ll control the company. Roldan says this is the beginning of a plan and Vikingo should have a match next week to warm up for Dom.
There will be a qualifying match for Rey de Reyes next week, and then in two weeks the Rey de Reyes event begins.
Pimpinela Escarlata is leaving in a neckbrace and on a stretcher, and he begs El Grande Americano to take his place in the qualifier. EGA agrees to do just that.
Rey de Reyes Tournament Qualifier: Ethan Page vs Omos vs AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo Del Dr. Wagner Jr vs El Grande Americano Nuevo
Dorian Roldan is out with Omos, but everyone else is out alone for now. EGA is WILDLY over as a babyface. Page bails to the floor at the bell and sits in the crowd. Omos invites an attack and DW3 and EGA oblige him. Omos clubbers away on DW3 before smashing EGA with a right. EGA works an armbar on Omos who just snatches him up for a bodyslam in response. Page finally re-enters and wants to get a truce with Omos. Page stomps away on DW3 and EGA while Omos looks on impassively. Omos boots Page down and then gets double-teamed by DW3 and EGA. They want a double suplex but Omos fights his way out of it and slams EGA on top of DW3. Omos clubbers away at DW3 and EGA gets shoved away for his troubles. Omos splashes DW3 in a corner and fires off some back elbows. Omos yanks up EGA for a sidewalk slam before pulling DW3 up for a facebuster on a top turnbuckle. Omos hits a big running boot on DW3 to thunderous boos from the crowd. Omos covers DW3 for two as Page breaks up the cover.
EGA tries a sleeper hold but Omos pulls him around as DW3 charges and gets caught. Omos dumps DW3 and then drops EGA off his back to the mat. Omos wrecks everyone with splashes but Page manages to escape to the floor again. Omos goes out and runs Page over the announce table so EGA tries a tope suicida to break up the flurry. It doesn’t work at all, but Page manages to go to Omos’s eyes as DW3 smashes Omos with a tope suicida. EGA and DW3 go face to face and Page sneaks in to wallop DW3 after he and EGA slammed Omos into the ring post. Page wants Ego’s Edge on EGA but he slips off. Page stops a rope walk and puts the boots to EGA. Page hits a powerslam and DW3 breaks up the cover with a frog splash at two. DW3 covers Page and gets two. DW3 hits a running knee on Page and then hits a discus punch. DW3 hits a reverse elbow and another big right but Page fires off a superkick. Page covers DW3 and gets two. Page goes to ground and pound before trying to take DW3’s mask. EGA flies in and wallops Page with a slap and a reverse suplex. EGA ascends and crushes Page with a flying lariat. Omos re-enters and he and EGA square off mid-ring. EGA fires off some rights and a roundhouse kick. Omos hits a glancing right and then misses a charge. DW3 and EGA try to dump Omos to the floor and finally succeed with everyone ending up out there. Omos misses a right and hits the ring post. EGA and DW3 square off and start slugging it out.
DW3 gets pulled into a rolling senton but Page flies in to dump EGA to the floor. Page tries a cover and gets two, but Wagner pops up with a Wagner Driver. Santos Escobar makes an appearance and runs DW3 into the barricade. They fight their way to the back and EGA and Page square off on the apron. EGA pounds Page down but Omos rises up with a chokeslam on Page. Rayo and Bravo Americano emerge and handcuff Omos to the ring post. EGA gets the metal plate for his mask and hits a running headbutt on Omos. EGA goes into the ring and pulls Page into La Cavernaria, and Page taps out! There’s no referee however, as he’s been taken out. Here’s EGA-OG out to take out Rayo and Bravo with a chair. Page tries to take advantage and hits Ego’s Edge on EGA but his cover only gets two. Page wants EGA-OG’s chair but here’s La Parka out to snatch the chair and smash EGA-OG with it. EGA hits a running headbutt on Page and covers him for three. EGA Nuevo qualifies for Rey de Reyes.
This was a chaotic and really fun main event. The story here was obviously everyone trying to overcome the massive size difference that Omos had, and EGA’s henchmen had the solution. DW3 and Escobar have major issues to settle so that should be happening soon, and Page has been on a bit of a losing streak lately so the finish made a lot of sense. JBL kept hammering away on the point of EGA taking Pimpi’s place in the match by “setting him up” for the EGA-OG attack backstage so we’ll see if that plays into any stories moving forward. 3.5*
Winner – El Grande Americano Nuevo (Running headbutt on Page)
EGA Nuevo celebrates on the ramp as the credits roll, and we’re out.
Another super-fun show this evening with two quality matches and some more major updates for Rey de Reyes. I highly recommend catching this show when you can.
