Tonight’s Smackdown comes to the USA and Netflix airwaves LIVE from the Amerant Bank Arena in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The announce team for tonight’s show is Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett on match calls and analysis, Mark Nash on ring announcements, and Byron Saxton on backstage interviews and breaking news segments. Let’s watch some wrestling!

Then, Now, Forever….TOGETHER

RHIYO is arriving and they pause to take a peek at the mysterious CRATE that’s not to be opened until 02/28/2026. Here’s WWE Women’s US Champion Giulia and Kiana James consulting backstage. Also arriving are Charlotte Flair (with a puppy in tow) and Alexa Bliss, and Nia Jax and Lash Legend. Here’s Damien Priest dapping it up with R-Truth, and a hallway shot of WWE Men’s US Champion Carmelo Hayes. Finally, we see Trick Williams emerging from a vehicle in his LEMON PEPPER STEPPERS. A highlights package from last week‘s Smackdown is shown with the emphasis being on Cody Rhodes emerging triumphant during the Men’s EC qualifier match.

“Kingdom” plays to a huge eruption from the crowd and here’s Cody Rhodes out to his normal gigantic pop. Rhodes wants to know what Fort Lauderdale wants to talk about. Immediately, Jacob Fatu‘s music hits and the Samoan Werewolf stalks to the ring to eye up a wary Rhodes. Fatu says Rhodes wouldn’t even be out to address the crowd if it wasn’t for Drew McIntyre. Fatu says he was walking out with a win and Rhodes knows it. Fatu says his concern isn’t Rhodes at the moment, it’s about Drew McIntyre and he wants McIntyre out for a dog-walking right now. Here’s Smackdown GM Nick Aldis out to mention that he’s given McIntyre the night off because there’s too much at stake to have a confrontation. Aldis wants to let Cody have his time to chat with the crowd and invites Fatu to his office to set something up around McIntyre. As it turns out, WWE Men’s Undisputed Champion Drew McIntyre is in the building in a luxury box. McIntyre says he’s the champ and he does what he wants, and he loves Smackdown so much that he booked a suite to watch the show. McIntyre says Fatu is all bark and no bite, so Fatu charges out to start wrecking Security goons before Aldis flies down to try to calm things down. Aldis tells Security to get McIntyre out of the building and a very grumpy Fatu leaves with Aldis. McIntyre continues to talk crap, and Rhodes says the whole world is after McIntyre because he’s an asshole.

Tessitore throws to a package on The MFT’s and their victory in the ten man tag last week, before the Wyatt Sicks showed up to continue that feud. Carmelo Hayes runs into Ilja Dragunov who hypes him up for the EC Qualifier tonight, and Hayes tells Dragunov to keep up his energy for his match tonight. Dragunov says even if Hayes wins tonight, he’s not walking into ‘Mania as the US Champ because Dragunov is still coming for that title. Dragunov makes his entrance as we go to commercials.

Nick Aldis and Jacob Fatu are chatting backstage and Aldis promises to give Fatu a match with Drew McIntyre but he has to be patient. Fatu says he’s not going to wait much longer before leaving.

Ilja Dragunov vs Tama Tonga

Solo Sikoa has THE LANTERN and the rest of the MFT’s in tow because clearly five guys are needed at ringside to overcome the awesome force of Dragunov. Dragunov attacks at the bell and starts chopping away at Tonga. Tonga flies out with some rights and then puts the boots to Dragunov in a corner. They slug it out and Tonga gains control by driving Dragunov head-first into a turnbuckle. Tonga misses a charge and eats a Dragunov knee lift and a big boot. Dragunov hits a German and a running big boot that sends Tonga to the floor as we go to commercials.

Tonga is in control when the show returns, but Dragunov predictably fires up with some slaps. They start slugging it out and then crash together with simultaneous clotheslines. Dragunov is bleeding from his nose as they slug it out again. Dragunov misses a charge but slaps Tonga down with another German. Dragunov hits another German and barks at a seated Sikoa. Dragunov hits a Constantin Special and covers Tonga for two. Dragunov misses a dive and Tonga drops him with a Flatliner that gets a two count. Tonga gets dropped with a side suplex and Dragunov gets distracted by Tonga Loa. Dragunov shakes that off and hits a top rope senton. JC Mateo distracts Dragunov and that allows Tonga to get a sneaky roll up for two. Dragunov hits a roundhouse kick that staggers Tonga, but more distraction from Tonga Loa allows Tonga to fly in with the Cutthroat. Tonga covers Dragunov and gets three.

Again, it took five guys out there to beat Ilja Dragunov with a bunch of distraction. Does this help anyone? Probably not. It’s just content to churn through that probably doesn’t lead to anything major down the road. The selling was spotty here and Dragunov’s knee brace kept slipping down his leg which caused some weirdness in the sequencing of the moves. Nothing special, nothing to go out of your way to seek out. 2.25*

Winner – Tama Tonga (Cutthroat)

Post-match sees Sikoa grab a microphone to ask the crowd if they thought he was playing. Sikoa says this is what’s going to happen from now on, and Dragunov flies in from behind to attack Sikoa. Predictably Dragunov gets destroyed by the MFT’s and here’s Matt Cardona out, followed by Apollo Crews. Both get destroyed by Talla Tonga before the lights go out. Uncle Howdy is on the video board to challenge Sikoa to stand on his own. Howdy challenges Sikoa to show up presumably for next week..

Drew McIntyre is backstage and he’s confronted by Nick Aldis. Aldis yells at McIntyre and says he’s crossed a line by coming to the arena. McIntyre tells Aldis to relax and apparently leaves.

Byron Saxton is backstage and he wants a word with Randall Keith Orton who steps into frame. Saxton asks Orton about the Chamber and facing one of his best friends in Cody Rhodes. Here’s Zelina to interrupt and she’s followed by Aleister Black who mentions that there was a time when people like him couldn’t get this close to Orton. Black wonders where that man is now, and Orton says the only version of him that Black needs to be worried about is the one in front of him. Orton wants Black tonight and vows to chat with Nick Aldis. WWE Women’s Undisputed Champion Jade Cargill is on her way to the ring as we go to commercials.

When the show returns Byron Saxton is with Lash Legend and Nia Jax and Jax says they’re now the “Irresistible Forces”. Jax mentions her qualifier tonight and that she and Legend have a tag title match next week on Smackdown with RHIYO.

Here’s Jade Cargill out for her full entrance as some highlights are shown of her win over Jordynne Grace on last week’s Smackdown. Cargill mentions that she defends her title on her time and says Grace’s best wasn’t good enough. Cargill says when people step to her they fold, before mentioning that Liv Morgan is making her decision this Monday night in Atlanta. Cargill happens to live in Atlanta and will be at the show to hear the decision first-hand. As Cargill goes to leave, Charlotte Flair’s music plays, and they have a short meeting in the aisle. Cargill gets in Flair’s face and WOOOOO’s at her before a ref comes out to break it up. The triple threat qualifier is next as we go to commercials.

Women’s Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match: Kiana James vs Charlotte Flair vs Nia Jax

Flair tosses James into Jax, and then Jax trucks Flair down. James tries to make an alliance with Jax who has none of that. Flair rams James into a turnbuckle and then runs into a Jax toss headbutt before doing the same to James. Jax hits Hip Attacks on both Flair and James before running into a Flair big boot. Jax misses a charge as we go to commercials.

Flair gets dumped to the apron but then slugs James in response. Flair hits a cross-body on James before chopping away at both opponents. Flair hits her walkover clothesline on James and then dumps her to the floor. Flair chops away at Jax and then hits her with a big boot when Jax charges. James flies in with a high boot on Flair before being snatched up by Jax off the apron. Flair kicks them both over. Flair ascends and hits her moonsault before covering Jax for two. (Jax caught the full brunt of Flair’s knees on the moonsault, hopefully she’s okay.) Jax recovers and hoists Flair up, but Flair slips off. Jax ignores that and snatches Flair up again for a Samoan Drop. James runs over and yanks Jax up for her own Samoan Drop before covering and getting two. Jax rolls to the floor and James eats a big boot from a recovered Flair. Flair and James start slugging it out in a corner as both ascend. Flair hits a top rope Spanish Fly but only gets two on the cover. Jax yanks Flair down and out before running her into a ring post. Jax sends Flair back in but eats a big boot from James. Jax charges and James slips it as Jax hits the ring steps. James runs into a Figure Eight but Jax breaks it up with a leg drop on Flair. Jax sets up James for the Annihilator but Flair breaks up her cover at two. Flair and Jax square off and start slugging it out with Jax taking the advantage. Flair ascends as does Jax. Flair hits a sit down powerbomb before slapping the Figure Eight on her. James sneaks in and pulls Flair into a crucifix. The ref counts three and Kiana James has qualified for the Elimination Chamber!

Well then, that was maybe the most unexpected outcome of any of these qualifiers, but good on Kiana James. She’s leveling up her ring work and timing, and this was a good way to give her some shine while simultaneously keeping Flair and Jax firmly in the tag division (presumably). James’s Samoan Drop of Jax was the visual of the evening thus far. Flair’s ring work feels a bit stale at this point but she always has to work down to Jax’s pace whenever they’re matched up. This was fine for what it was, and the second act in particular was decent. 3*

Winner – Kiana James (Crucifix on Flair)

Rhea Ripley and IYO Sky are watching James make her way back up the aisle as they are joined by Byron Saxton. Ripley mocks Jax and congratulates James. Ripley promises to wipe the floor with Giulia and Sky says she’s winning her qualifier on Monday night. Ripley says they are the tag champs for a reason and next Friday night they will show Jax and Legend what that reason is. Sky then says as far as the Chamber goes, may the best woman win.

Oba Femi is warming up backstage as we go to commercials.

Kit Wilson vs Oba Femi

A quick shout-out to Elton Prince, please continue to heal up because I very much miss Pretty Deadly. Wilson grabs a mic and says that he thinks that Femi has done a lot of work and has grown, so Wilson wants to read him a poem. Wilson jumps on the apron and reads “An Ode to Oba Femi”. It’s a few verses about how great Femi is. Femi takes the mic and says the poem was nice, and then wants him to read another one. Wilson has only prepared one, but Femi insists on another one. Wilson reminds him that this old material and the next one is called “Nine Things I Hate About Men”. This one is not quite as fun and seems to take a shot at Femi’s strut and Femi’s “toxicity”. Femi has had enough and just wrecks Wilson with running uppercuts. Femi hoists Wilson and tosses him halfway across the ring. Femi hits the Fall From Grace and covers Wilson for three.

This was exactly what you think it would and should be. While I enjoy Wilson’s antics, I’m hoping there’s something in mind soon for Femi and a program for Wrestlemania. I guess we’ll see what unfolds. One star for the poetry, one star for the asskicking. 2*

Winner – Oba Femi (Fall From Grace)

Nick Aldis is with THE CRATE when R-Truth shows up to proclaim that it’s a MAJOR AWARD. Truth talks up all his awards, and Aldis tells a flack to send THE CRATE back to Raw. Damien Priest rolls up and Truth seems to think he’s in the qualifier. Aldis clarifies that he’s not, and Aldis reminds Priest about his qualifier and his opponents. Priest says he’s only two matches away from main eventing Wrestlemania and leaves.

Tiffany Stratton makes her entrance as we go to commercials.

Alba Fyre vs Tiffany Stratton

Fyre pushes out a wheelchair-bound Chelsea Green as Mark Nash mistakenly identifies Green as one half of the AAA Mixed Tag Team champions – those titles are now in the possession of Mr. Iguana and Lola Vice, Mark! Stratton grabs a side headlock to start and then does some acrobatics to confuse Fyre. Stratton trips up Fyre and then hits a butt-splash along the ropes. Stratton wallops Fyre with a shotgun dropkick and covers for two. Fyre dumps Stratton to the apron but Stratton responds with a springboard senton. Stratton pulls Fyre into a cover that gets two, and then hits a backslide for two. Fyre gouges the eyes and then smashes Stratton with a tornado DDT. We go to commercials.

Stratton smashes Fyre with a clothesline before walloping her with a springboard back elbow. Fyre recovers with a superkick and covers Stratton for two. Fyre slaps Stratton in the chest but gets dumped to the apron when she charges. Stratton ascends and hits a a neckbreaker suplex and a sit-out backbreaker before covering and getting two. (The second rope suplex was inches away from crippling Fyre, so let’s maybe not do that move again Tiff. Sheesh.) Fyre yanks Stratton up for a Gory Special that gets two. Stratton recovers with an Alabama Slam and ascends, but Fyre sprints over and dumps Stratton to the floor. Fyre charges and eats a Stratton right. Green rises out of the wheelchair to bark at Stratton, but collapses back into it when Stratton approaches. Fyre uses this to hit Stratton with a tope suicida. Fyre rolls Stratton back in and ascends but her dive meets Stratton’s knees. Stratton does some acrobatics and meets Fyre’s knees. Stratton shakes that off and hits a Death Valley Driver before ascending for the Prettiest Moonsault Ever. Stratton covers and gets the three count.

Some scary spots in this one, but Stratton was never losing prior to the Chamber. That makes this CONTENT! Listen, I appreciate that Stratton is a fairly terrific athlete but some of her spots are dangerous as hell and I’m glad Fyre got out of this one still intact. This probably didn’t need to be two segments long but we’ve got three hours to fill and so it is what it is. Nothing you have to seek out here, but this wasn’t too bad in a vacuum. 2.75*

Winner – Tiffany Stratton (Prettiest Moonsault Ever)

Here’s Cody Rhodes backstage running into Sami Zayn. Rhodes pre-emptively consoles Zayn regarding last week’s EC qualifier and says he’s got nothing to be ashamed of. Zayn says Rhodes should be ashamed for taking advantage of Zayn trying to help Rhodes out when Drew McIntyre attacked. Rhodes tries to explain his actions and says it was chaos in the match. Rhodes says Zayn doesn’t take that advantage of those opportunities and Zayn rightfully fires up calling Rhodes the “golden boy”. Zayn says Rhodes doesn’t understand what it’s like to always do the right thing, so Rhodes comes back with his rebuttal about trying to do the right thing in Germany and losing everything. Rhodes leaves after saying that Zayn’s problem is himself. A cackling Trick Williams comes in to offer some advice and says he’s going to get the job done tonight where Zayn couldn’t last week. Zayn chases after Rhodes and apologizes for blowing up at him. Zayn tells Rhodes he’ll be champion again and not to forget that he had some help along the way. Rhodes promises not to forget and leaves. (Cody has really been in asshole mode lately, guys. He’s turning into a very unlikeable character right before our eyes while staying, as Zayn so aptly put it, the golden boy. Must be nice to get to insult everyone to their faces and still be the man. Funny how that works.)

Carmelo Hayes makes his entrance as we go to commercials.

Men’s Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match: WWE Men’s US Champion Carmelo Hayes vs Trick Williams vs Damien Priest

Trick tries to buddy up with Hayes and Priest just runs both of them over in response. Priest gets walloped by a Hayes knee but Priest shakes it off by dropping Hayes on his face. Trick charges in and starts chopping Priest in a corner, but Priest reverses and smashes him around before doing the same to a recovered Hayes. Priest drops Trick and then runs into a Hayes low boot. Priest drops Hayes onto a prone Trick and then smashes Hayes down with an inverted DDT. Priest covers Hayes and gets two. Hayes wallops Trick with a springboard lariat and then wanders into a bunch of kicks from Priest. Hayes fires up with his helicopter DDT but Priest shakes it off with a sit-out powerbomb on Hayes. Priest covers Hayes for two as we go to commercials.

Trick and Priest are slugging it out when the show returns as Hayes crawls back in from the floor. Hayes hits a springboard cutter on both guys who roll out to the floor. Hayes hits a tope on Priest and then flies around to smash Trick with a running shotgun dropkick. Hayes ascends and hits a top rope frog splash on Priest that gets two. Hayes tracks Priest and Williams flies in to hit him with his reverse leg lariat. Trick hits a uranage and covers Hayes for two. Trick puts the badmouth on Hayes and chops him, but Hayes fires up with some chops of his own. Trick dumps Hayes to the floor and Priest runs over to smash Hayes on the announce table. Trick uses that opportunity to drop Priest face first on the announce table. Trick comes back in and hoists Hayes, but Hayes slips off and runs into a Trick rolling kick. Trick covers Hayes and gets two. Trick mounts Hayes on a top turnbuckle and ascends but Priest sneaks in and pulls Trick into a Razor’s Edge. Priest covers and gets two. Hayes smashes Priest with Nothing But Net and Trick breaks up the subsequent cover at two. Trick and Hayes start slugging it out and Priest smashes both of them with kicks. Hayes and Trick respond with kicks of their own, and then Trick fires Hayes off the ropes and into Priest’s chest. Hayes covers as Trick breaks that up, and then Hayes breaks up Trick’s subsequent cover. Hayes and Trick start slugging it out and Hayes hits a superkick that gets two. Trick yanks Hayes into a crucifix that gets two. Hayes hits the First 48 and ascends but Priest catches him with a huge right hand when he jumps. Trick uses a knee lift and then hits the Trick Shot on Priest as he has Hayes lined up for the Razor’s Edge. Trick covers Priest and gets three.

This is the right outcome for this match. Priest is a second-tier nobody at this point, and Hayes has his US title Open Challenge nonsense to keep going. Trick deserves this shine in the Chamber and I’m happy for him having that and what looks to be a program with Sami Zayn for WM. Everyone worked hard here but the inherent nature of these triple threats means it’s spot after spot after spot and the crowd never really fully got into this one as much as maybe they should have. It wasn’t bad, per se, just kind of weirdly heatless. At any rate, we move on from the qualifiers here on Smackdown and I’m thankful because these multi-person matches are hard to recap with clarity for the reader. 3.25*

Winner – Trick Williams (Trick Shot on Priest)

Los Garza, FrAxiom, Rey Fenix, and the Motor City Machine Guns are with THE CRATE and no one has an idea of what’s going on, but Candice LeRae wanders in to point out to Nick Aldis that John Wrestling is laying on top of the crate in his depressed state. Jordynne Grace sidles up to LeRae who tells her to wait her turn as Aldis says Gargano needs therapy. Grace and LeRae get into it and Aldis makes a match between them next week. Grace just wrestled for the title and now she’s taking on LeRae? Sure.

Giulia makes her entrance alone (!) as we go to commercials.

Jade Cargill is doing a quick photoshoot and runs across a returning B-Fab, and then here’s Michin with her kendo stick. Michin threatens Cargill and talks up taking Cargill’s title before Wrestlemania. Spoiler alert, that’s not happening, but we now probably have more CONTENT on the Road to Wrestlemania!

WWE Women’s US Champion Giulia vs WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Rhea Ripley

There’s another world where this match could main event a PLE, but instead it’s in the third hour of a random Fort Lauderdale Smackdown. Ripley bullies Giulia to a corner and they smack each other around off the break. Giulia slaps Ripley and yanks Ripley into a guillotine. Ripley mounts Giulia on a top turnbuckle and then slaps her in the face. Giulia wants a tornado DDT, but Ripley yanks her up and drops Giulia with a vertical suplex. Ripley wants Riptide but Giulia escapes to yank Ripley to the mat by her hair. Giulia ascends and smashes Ripley with a dropkick. Giulia misses a charge and eats a Ripley back elbow. Ripley smashes Giulia around but then misses a charge and goes to the floor. Giulia hits a short dropkick that sends Ripley into the ring steps as we go to commercials.

Giulia is putting the boots to Ripley when the show returns. Ripley fires up with a roundhouse kick after blocking an Arrivederci knee attempt. They slug it out and Ripley hits some clotheslines and a reverse thrust kick. Ripley hits a running dropkick and ascends. Giulia charges over and smashes Ripley with a right but Ripley fires some rights back. Ripley hits a Cheeky Nandos and then drops Giulia face first on the mat. Ripley’s cover gets two. Ripley wants Riptide again but Giulia escapes with some elbows. Giulia hits a tornado DDT and the Arrivederci knee. Giulia’s cover gets two, and Ripley sneaks out of a Northern Lights Bomb with a headbutt. Here’s Nia Jax and Lash Legend arriving to attack Ripley which causes a DQ. Here’s IYO Sky sprinting out to even up the numbers. Sky smashes Legend around and Ripley dumps her out with a clothesline.

This was a decent match until that crappy non-finish ending. Giulia had her working boots on as did Ripley. You would have expected a styles clash here but they worked together pretty well overall. I know they need content but just using up twelve or so minutes of the audiences time just to get to a set up for a match that’s happening next week is some kind of bullshit. ANYWAY, the match itself was 3.5* but the non-finish drags it down in my eyes.

No Winner – Nia Jax/Lash Legend interference DQ

Oba Femi is backstage where he’s met by The Miz. Miz calls himself the locker room leader since John Cena is gone, and hits Femi with his THREE DEMANDMENTS. Miz offers to show Femi the ropes, and Femi leaves to talk to Aldis about it. Miz realizes what he’s just talked himself into and apparently wants no part of that. We go to commercials.

Here’s an upset Charlotte Flair chatting to Alexa Bliss backstage about Flair’s loss. Bliss assures Flair that it’s okay to be upset, and Flair says she’s fine since she’s famously evolved. Kiana James wanders in to put some stinkeye on Bliss, and here’s Giulia coming in as well. James says that she and Giulia are the most powerful duo on the roster which Bliss cackles at before saying PROVE IT. Giulia screams in Japanese and gets dragged off by James. Flair insists she’s fine and drags Bliss off as well.

Tessitore and Barrett run down next week’s card as the show moves back to USA Network after the Olympics end. The MFT’s exit the locker room and Sikoa tells Tama Tonga how proud he is of him after his big win tonight. Sikoa says they need to focus on the Wyatts and not the US title before leaving. Shinsuke Nakamura sidles up to put some words into Tama Tonga’s ear about being a soldier and not his own man. Nakamura’s words seem to strike a chord with Tonga as he makes his exit.

Aleister Black and Zelina make their entrance as we go to commercials.

Aleister Black vs Randy Orton

Orton trucks Black over and hits his pose to a pop. There’s some rope running and each guy ends up in a signature pose, Orton in his Viper configuration and Black with his legs crossed. Orton gets the advantage and drops ten rights on Black’s head before sending Black to the floor with a clothesline. We go to commercials.

Orton hits the Garvin Stomp when the show returns. Zelina climbs on to the apron and Black uses that to drive a knee lift into Orton’s back. Black hits a kick and drives Orton into a ring post. Orton goes back in and Black follows to wallop him with another running knee. Black’s cover gets two. Black works a rear chinlock and Orton finally breaks out to yank Black up. Black hits a knee to end the flurry and then smashes Orton with another knee lift when he charges. Black hits a running forearm and covers Orton for two. Black goes back to the rear chinlock and Orton finally rises to smash Black with an uppercut. Orton wants the draping DDT and Black breaks out of it by yanking Orton throat-first over the top rope. Black hits a big boot and then smashes Orton with a rear elbow. Black goes back to the rear chinlock and Orton turns it around to drop Black with a Saito suplex. Orton crushes Black with a lariat and his patented snap powerslam. Orton puts Black on the apron to hit him with the draping DDT before GOING TO THAT PLACE. Black escapes to the floor and Orton gives chase so Black just turns and smashes Orton with a roundhouse kick and poke to the eye. Black goes up on the announce table and Orton catches the Pele kick so he can drop Black face-first on the table. Orton yanks Black up and hits a draping DDT from the table to the floor. Orton runs Black back in and here’s Drew McIntyre to smash Orton in the face with his title belt. Here’s Cody Rhodes out to chase McIntyre away. Black hits Black Mass on a staggered Orton and covers him for three.

Wow. That’s a great result for Black no matter what the circumstances are. Randy works at a certain pace these days and his moveset is much more limited than it used to be, but he still commands a crowd and they are excited for his high spots. This certainly sets up at least a rematch between the two main combatants while putting some juice on the Chamber stuff. The match itself was a good intense back-and-forth event and even with the overbooked finish still delivered pretty well overall. 3.75*

Winner – Aleister Black (Black Mass)

Post-match sees a grinning Drew McIntyre hoisting his belt while yelling in the direction of Rhodes and Orton. Rhodes stands helplessly over a fallen Orton as McIntyre celebrates in the crowd. The credits roll and we’re out as a tribute graphic for Kerwin Silfies pops up at the very end of the show.

Smackdown has moved into being a content factory and at three hours, I don’t know what else anyone would have expected. There are some things that matter, and there are a lot of things that don’t. Tonight’s show was very much a mix of those two things and you can tell by the recap above what mattered and what really didn’t. It is what it is in that regard. The qualifiers were decent, and the main event was fine with me. Overall I’m going thumbs leaning up for tonight, but this show remains a slog at three hours with no relief in sight.
