Evening Daily News Update: January 5, 2026

Good evening, doomers! Another week begins as the NFL season wrapped up with an absolute banger between Baltimore and Pittsburgh to determine the final division winner for the AFC. Playoffs begin Saturday, and HISTORY IS MADE, as the Houston Texans avoid being the Saturday afternoon game! I don’t have the official stat in front of me, but it feels like they are always doomed for that position whenever they make the playoffs. We’ve got Monday Night Raw and the tease of Chris Jericho’s inevitable return, as well as NBA on Peacock when YOUR New York Knicks take on the Detroit Pistons.

Rock Star Gary is back from holiday sabbatical to give us more World Class goodness (from August 1988), Jabroniville’s Joshi Spotlight shines the light on Summer ’01 GAEA Japan, and Logan’s World Was Watching the September 11, 1994 episode of Wrestling Challenge. Kat (not to be confused with the Knick’s KAT) will have her recap of Monday Night Raw available late in the evening.

Fightful has confirmed the departures, though I’m sure most forgot Martinez was with the company, Abrahantes’ role diminished with the departures of the Lucha Bros, and Taven was, at best, used sparingly on ROH Honor Club.

If you haven’t done so, you can still cast your votes for the 2025 Doomies. Did your favorite match make the cut? Did you love or hate WrestleMania 41? How the hell did I make the final three in Blog Writer of the Year?! So far, We’ve seen the best turnout in voting in Doomies history (stat cannot be verified), though only a fraction of that participated in the preliminary nomination phase. Hopefully next year we can see a better showing there, and possibly look into making adjustments for the heavy-hitting categories. Again, we thank everyone who put in the work for nominations, and in general, having fun with this. At the end of the day, it’s all about having fun… unless I get walked like a dog by Kat and Niz, then you’re getting sad ham sandwiches Monday through Friday for the rest of the year!
