AEW Collision Review – 09.27.25

Hey group – this one is going to have a slightly different format since I’m a day late in reviewing it due to a whole lot of wrestling this weekend and being slightly under the weather currently.

The show was held at the Marshall Health Network Arena in Huntington, WV. The announcers were Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness on match calls and analysis, Arkady Aura on ring announcements, and Lexy Nair on backstage interviews and breaking news segments.

Daniel Garcia and the The Death Riders open the show with a promo, followed by Matt Menard, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong‘s response. Jamie Hayter and Julia Hart talk about their 1-1 record against each other and look forward to finding out who’s best. Komander, Hologram and Alex Abrahantes are in the middle of a promo when Clon‘s video plays. Kyle Fletcher uses that time to attack Hologram, presumably injuring him badly.

The Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Daniel Garcia, and Claudio Castagnoli) vs Matt Menard, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong

The story here is Menard being wildly pissed off and confused about Garcia joining the Death Riders and continuing to ignore Menard’s requests for an explanation. Strong and O’Reilly do everything they can to give Menard a shot at Garcia but Claudio plays chaos gremlin and breaks most of it up before anything major can happen. There’s a long heat sequence on O’Reilly before he can tag in Strong. The Paragon guys run wild for a bit but the Death Riders even things up. Menard and Garcia have a short sequence but Garcia is smart enough to let Moxley do the heavy lifting. Garcia comes in and ends things with a curb stomp on Menard. 2.5*

Winners – The Death Riders (Garcia curb stomp on Menard)

Brody King announces that Brodido will team with Kenny Omega to take on Josh Alexander and the Young Bucks on Wednesday. That should be damn good, I would think.

The Death Riders attack on the Opps during the chaotic ending of Dynamite is shown.

Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir vs Rosario Grillo and Rachel Ellering

Yuta and Shafir will take on Kris Statlander and Darby Allin on Dynamite, so they warmed up by quickly squashing Ellering and Grillo. Shafir wins it with the Mother’s Milk choke. Yuta cuts a promo on Statlander for “betraying” him after he mentored her. Yuta calls Darby a “slimy little freak” who saw a lot of dead bodies on Everest and says they’re going to do something similar to him on Wednesday. 1*

Winners – Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir (Mother’s Milk choke on Ellering)

In addition to the mixed tag, Moxley, Claudio and Garcia will take on Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs and Hangman Page at Dynamite. After this past Dynamite Page, Joe and Hobbs cut a promo to build the heat for it.

Anthony Bowens and Max Caster vs The Swirl (Blake Christian and Lee Johnson)

Bowens and Caster are not announced as The Acclaimed, sadly, and the story here is that they cannot begin to get along at the outset. Caster tries to get Bowens to do the Scissors leg drop but he refuses. There’s a long heat sequence on Caster that goes through a break. Schiavone and McGuinness share memories of the Acclaimed as Bowens calls Caster a “stupid sonofabitch” for not tagging him when Caster had the opportunity. Bowens leaves and here’s Jerry Lynn to gently encourage Bowens to go back. Bowens decides to go back and accept the tag but the Swirl end up getting back the advantage. Caster flies in to break up a cover and Bowens ends things with a big punch to Johnson as Caster actually covers someone for three for the first time in a long time. Caster and Bowens continue bitching at each other as Lynn encourages them to scissor it up. Bowens thinks about it but decides against it and leaves, as does Caster. The Swirl are a really solid b-level team, honestly. 2.5*

Winners – Anthony Bowens and Max Caster (Caster covers Johnson after a Bowens punch)

The Matriarchy argue about the return of Luchasaurus. Nick Wayne talks about Christian Cage injuring him and says he’s going to be Cage’s biggest nightmare moving forward.

Tony Schiavone IN A TURTLENECK runs down the current list of AEW live events being held in Florida in a style very reminiscent of the Gordon Solie 80’s.

Highlights are shown of Tony Khan’s announcement of the new Women’s tag team titles and the subsequent social media posts indicating who might be teaming up. Lexy Nair is backstage with Anna Jay and Tay Melo who are very excited about the titles coming into existence and promise to be the first ever champions.

The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum) and Dalton Castle vs Cowpoke Paul, Corey Sparks and KM

Cowpoke Paul! KM’s Iron Mike Sharpe persona is kind of fun but a real deep cut for the modern audience. Castle hits the Bangarang on KM and ends things quickly. I am going to enjoy this team a BUNCH. 1*

TNT Championship – Kyle Fletcher (C) vs Komander

Fletcher appears to be lightening up a bit on the chicken and broccoli, if you get my drift. There’s no Don Callis appearance and I, for one, do not mind it. Schiavone surmises that Callis might be panicking about the return of Kenny Omega. Fletcher and Komander have very good chemistry having faced each other in ROH a bunch. Komander has improved a bunch over time, truly. Fletcher hits an apron powerbomb on Komander as we go to a PIP break. Fletcher controls throughout the break but Komander comes back with a tornado DDT that gets a long two. Fletcher recovers with a Flatliner and wants a piledriver on the apron, but Komander saves himself with a rana. Komander kicks out of a Michinoku driver at two. Komander hits a springboard moonsault and a springboard Mexican driver but doesn’t cover. Komander hits a 450 splash and gets two. Fletcher recovers with a buckle bomb and the brainbuster and that ends things. This was a really fun and competitive match and I give Fletcher credit for giving Komander that much shine. 3.5*

Winner and STILL TNT Champion – Kyle Fletcher (Protostar brainbuster)

After commercials Fletcher mentions wanting an opponent for Wednesday now that Hologram is hurt. Schiavone tells us that Orange Cassidy has decided he’s that guy and that match is now official for Dynamite.

Big Bill and Bryan Keith vs Eddie Kingston and Hook

Hook tells Kingston that he spoke to Tony Khan and this is now a TORNADO TAG. Hook looks like a child next to Bill, quite frankly. We go to a PIP break with Bill and Keith in control. Keith and Bill are working over Hook as Kingston struggles to re-enter with McGuinness once again name-dropping Chris Jericho. Bill has some real 1998 Kevin Nash vibes going on right now. Schiavone announces that Dynamite will be 2.5 hours on Wednesday night. Kingston has been favoring his shoulder but he finally re-enters to even things up. Bill wants a double chokeslam but Kingston and Hook fight out of it and hit a double backdrop on Bill, but their double cover only gets two. Bill hits a splash and a lariat but can only get a two count on Kingston. Kingston hits a backfist sending Keith into Hook’s REDRUM and Keith is forced to tap. 2*

Winners – Eddie Kingston and Hook (REDRUM on Keith)

Juice Robinson and Austin Gunn are with Lexy Nair and Robinson mentions that Jay White called him after they lost last week and agreed that they need re-enforcements. Ace Austin is apparently that person and I’m okay with that choice.

Jamie Hayter vs Julia Hart

This is your IDRINQ match of the night! Skye Blue accompanies Hart, with no sign of Thekla at the outset. McGuinness details the history between these two. Hayter rag-dolls Hart a bunch until she bails to recover with Blue. Blue gets a cheap shot in and Hart covers Hayter for two before a PIP break. Hart controls throughout the break with some help from Blue. Hayter finally fires up and cancels Blue on the outside with a suplex. Hayter hits a gnarly Saito suplex and gets a long two. Hart turns a Hayter Samoan drop into a crucifix and gets two. There’s a reset and Hart manages a moonsault but Hayter gets her foot on the rope at two. Hart slaps on an Octopus but Hayter reverses into a tombstone piledriver that gets two. Hayter hits Hayter-ade and that gets three. 2.5*

Winner – Jamie Hayter (Hayter-ade)

Blue and Hart attack Hayter during the post-match and Queen Aminata rushes out with a belt to chase them off. Hayter grabs a mic and challenges the Triangle (including Thekla, who has wandered out) for BLOOD AND GUTS. Everyone barks at each other and we’re out.

Kind of a nothing-burger episode after a bunch of really good ones, and it happens with this show occasionally. Next week is shaping up to be solid with Dynamite especially looking tasty.
