Smackdown Review – 07.11.25

Smackdown is Go For Launch at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN, the home of the NHL’s Predators. The announce team is Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett on match calls, Mark Nash on ring introductions, and Cathy Kelley on backstage interviews. This is a big weekend for WWE coming off of Raw and NXT with the Great American Bash and SNME on Saturday, followed by Evolution on Sunday. This is the go-home show for all three of those events.

As always, we have walk-ins and here are WWE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits ahead of their title defense against the Wyatts. Next is country music star Jelly Roll who gets a big hug from Randy Orton. Tessitore says “There’s a kavorka avalanche tumbling through Nashville!” as Los Angeles Knight makes his way to the ring.

Knight wants to talk about predictions and spoilers as they are two terms Paul Heyman uses a lot. He says that Heyman holds a lot of power, but Seth Rollins who is desperate and “washed” had to make the move to join with Heyman. They’ve amassed this “goon crew” of Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. Knight says it’s serious with those two because they tried to hurt him. Rollins ordered it because he couldn’t do it himself. Dropping Rollins on his head this past Monday is not enough because Knight wants Rollins dignity, he wants justice, and he wants to hurt Rollins. He assumes Rollins is in the back with the crew and isn’t scared, but you don’t have to be scared “to get your ass kicked”. It’s not a prediction or spoiler, it’s a fact of life because Knight is THE SPOILER.

Right on cue, here’s Paul Heyman with the MITB briefcase and a microphone. Heyman purposely makes the fans prematurely say his catchphrase and says it’s not surprising fans of Knight would mess it up. As Rollins’s “Oracle” he’s blessed with being able to see into the future and Rollins and company are THE future of the industry. He looks into the future for Knight and sees nothing because Knight has no future.

Here are WWE Men’s United States Champion Solo Sikoa, JC Mateo, Tonga Loa, and Talla Tonga to join the proceedings for some reason. Sikoa says some things change and some things stay the same. When Heyman went to Raw and left Sikoa’s family, everything changed. There’s no more Bloodline, no more Tribal Chief, and no more Wiseman. The crowd chants for Roman Reigns as Heyman nervously backs away. Sikoa says if Heyman wants to live another day he should leave right now before his MFT’s put Heyman through a table like they did last year. Heyman immediately leaves through the timekeeper’s area as Mateo grins at Sikoa.

Sikoa addresses Knight and says he’s the new US champion because he beat the guy who beat Knight for the title at Wrestlemania. He’s giving Knight the same opportunity as he gave Heyman to leave or his MFT’s will make sure Knight never walks again. Knight turns to leave but the fans chanting his name makes him pause. Knight tells Sikoa the fans won’t let him leave so come on with it. As the four surround the ring, a chair slides into the ring at Knight’s feet as Big James Uso is here to help. Uso takes out Loa on the floor and blasts Mateo with a chairshot. Talla Tonga wants to join the fight in the ring but Sikoa talks him out of it. Here’s Smackdown GM Nick Aldis.

Aldis says he knows Sikoa is a champion and has some new friends, but he runs Smackdown. He figured Sikoa would be worried about getting “molly whopped” by Uso in their title match tomorrow night, but if he wants a fight tonight HOW ABOUT A TAG MATCH PLAYA? It will be Sikoa and Mateo vs Uso and Knight this evening as Knight’s music plays.

Here’s Charlotte Flair being joined by Alexa Bliss. Bliss has a four way match tonight against Sol Ruca, Roxanne Perez and Kairi Sane and wants her “ally of convenience” to be at ringside with her. Flair says she’ll do it but does she look like a cheerleader to Bliss? Bliss says Flair would be a terrible cheerleader as Flair scoffs. We go to commercials.

Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit is in the building this evening.

Roxanne Perez vs Sol Ruca vs Kairi Sane vs Alexa Bliss

Perez has Raquel Rodriguez with her, as Zaria is seconding Ruca. Asuka is with Sane, and indeed Flair emerges with Bliss. The bell rings and we’re off.

Ruca squares off with Bliss and hits a tilt-a-whirl facebreaker on Bliss for an immediate two count as Sane breaks it up. Sane drives Ruca down and then monkey flips her out of the ring. Sane runs the ropes but she’s immediately tackled by Perez for some ground and pound. Ruca recovers and flies in to dropkick both Perez and Sane. Ruca hits her running tope/moonsault on all three other competitors on the floor as a shocked Flair looks on. We go to picture-in-picture commercials.

During PIP Ruca tosses Perez back in and SWEEPS THE LEG before superkicking Perez in the face. Ruca covers for two. Perez slips off Ruca’s shoulders and rams Ruca into the corner. Ruca slips a charge and hoists up Perez to spin her like a top while simultaneously smacking Perez’s legs into a charging Sane. Perez slips off and clips Ruca’s knee before putting the boots to the same knee. Perez hits Ruca with a tilt-a-whirl side Russian leg sweep and that gets two. Perez again kicks Ruca’s knee before putting her in a sort-of spinning toe hold. Bliss comes flying in and rolls up Perez for two. Bliss hits Perez with a back elbow, but Perez gains the advantage and rolls Bliss up for two. They have a wildly sloppy sequence that ends with a Perez sunset flip that Bliss rolls out of to hit a shotgun dropkick. Perez fires Bliss down by the hair and stands on her back. Bliss rolls out of the ring as Sane comes flying off the top rope to hit Perez with her fist? Sane was far away and I’m not sure she got much of anything but she covers Perez for two. Sane knocks a recovering Ruca off the apron but turns and eats a right hand from Perez. Perez shoots Sane into the corner and charges in to uppercut her. A second Perez charge is met with a high boot as Sane ascends.

Back live with Perez slapping Sane as Perez is ascending as well. Predictably there’s a Tower of Doom spot with Sane getting the worst of it and all four are down. Bliss and Ruca slug it out with Bliss getting the advantage. Bliss hits Ruca with a running flipping neckbreaker and that gets two. Barrett compliments Ruca as Perez nails Bliss with a superkick. Perez blasts a draped Bliss in the back with a running elbow before hitting a springboard moonsault on Bliss. Perez covers for two as Ruca breaks it up. Ruca hits a sit-down backbreaker and a running knee strike on Perez for two. Ruca slams Perez down and ascends. Sane recovers and nails Ruca in the knee before ascending. Sane headbutts Ruca into the Tree of Woe position so she can hit her with a double stomp. Sane covers Perez for two as Bliss and Perez break it up. Bliss and Perez dump Sane to the floor before Perez rolls up Bliss for two. Bliss tries for Sister Abigail but Perez slips it. Perez eats a Bliss back elbow and Ruca FLIES in to hit both of them with the Sol Snatcher. Ruca covers Perez for two as Rodriguez puts Perez’s boot on the bottom rope. Zaria comes over to Rodriguez to slug her, so Rodriguez snatches her up and boots down a charging Asuka. Rodriguez drops Zaria face first on the announce table as Flair looms from behind. Flair launches Rodriguez over the table literally into Tessitore’s lap.

Sane wipes out Ruca with a right and ascends. Sane’s Insane Elbow attempt is met with Bliss’s feet. Bliss manages to hit the Sister Abigail DDT that Sane clearly does not how to take and gets the three.

Sloppy sloppy sloppy but it’s not like these four have a lot of history together. I think the match layout was fine for what it was with “two people in the ring while the other two recover on the outside” being the formula but everyone had some nerves tonight it seemed. Flair launching Rodriguez was a hell of a visual. I have no idea what to do with Grinnin’ Charlotte Flair but I’m not hating her thing with Bliss at all. I thought Perez and Ruca mostly did well but everyone had moments that they’d probably rather forget. Let’s call the whole thing 2*

Winner – Alexa Bliss (Sister Abigail DDT to Sane)

Tessitore and Barrett give a preview of the card for Evolution (Kat will be covering it and I’m excited to watch and read!). The Street Profits make their entrance as we go to commercials.

WWE Tag Team Championship: The Street Profits (C) vs The Wyatt Sicks

Tessitore tells us that the Profits have been champs for 119 days and this is their sixth defense of the titles. It will be Lumis and Gacy for the Wyatts this evening. Uncle Howdy, Erick Rowan and Nikki Cross watch from the aisle. Dawkins and Gacy will start as the bell rings and we’re off.

They lock up to start and Dawkins breaks cleanly in the corner as Ford comes down the apron to bark at Gacy. Another lock up results in Gacy breaking mostly cleanly as Lumis now barks at Dawkins. Dawkins goes behind and dumps Gacy to the mat. Gacy escapes with a back elbow. Dawkins slips a Gacy charge and clubbers away in the corner before charging down to pop Lumis with a right. Ford tags in as Dawkins drops Gacy to the mat. Ford ascends but Lumis scampers in to pull Gacy to safety. Ford imitates Lumis’s knuckle crawl and taunts the Wyatts as we go to commercials.

Back live with Lumis and Ford slugging it out in the corner. Ford, who is mounted on the top turnbuckle, just whales away at Lumis’s back. Lumis recovers and starts wrecking Ford with right hands before attempting a superplex. Ford reverses it into a sunset flip powerbomb as both guys are down. Ford and Lumis both make tags as Gacy and Dawkins charge in. Dawkins runs over Gacy with a couple of clotheslines and a giant flying back elbow. Dawkins hits a running twisting splash and a high kick to Gacy’s head. Dawkins hits a neckbreaker on Gacy and covers for one. Lumis comes in and Dawkins dumps him out before Gacy misses a charge and ends up on the floor as well. Dawkins hits a tope con hilo on both Wyatts and then dumps Gacy back in. Dawkins hits a swanton (!) on Gacy and gets two. Erick Rowan is now very close to ringside as Barrett points it out. Gacy recovers and nails Dawkins with a flying lariat before tagging in Lumis. Gacy and Lumis hit a double-team neckbreaker on Dawkins as Lumis covers for a two count. Lumis whips Dawkins hard into the corner before dragging him to the Wyatts corner. Lumis dumps Dawkins to the floor as we go to commercials.

Back live with Lumis clawing the top of Dawkins head as Ford is desperate for a tag. Dawkins reverses a waist lock and pushes Lumis over to the Profits corner as Ford tags in. Ford and Dawkins hit Lumis with double-team offense and a sloppy backdrop suplex as Ford covers Lumis for two. Ford tries to flip Lumis but he lands on his feet and flies back so Gacy can tag in. Ford charges in and eats a Gacy right hand before wandering into a Lumis spinebuster. Gacy powerbombs Lumis onto Ford and covers for two as Dawkins breaks it up. Ford fires up and hits a jumping kick to Gacy’s head. Dawkins tags in and he and Ford hit a Blockbuster on Gacy as Ford superkicks Lumis. Dawkins covers for two as Gacy somehow kicks out. Gacy dumps a charging Ford over the top rope all the way to the floor but a Dawkins right hand causes Gacy to also spill out to the floor. Lumis charges in to an immediate spinebuster from Dawkins. Ford tags in and ascends. Ford hits a massive Frog Splash on Lumis. Gacy distracts the referee as Rowan pulls Ford out of the ring. Dawkins waffles Rowan with a tackle that sends him over the barrier to the timekeeper’s area. Ford kicks Lumis away and ascends but this time Lumis escapes the Frog Splash attempt as Ford crashes to the mat. Lumis tags in Gacy and they hit their double-team powerbomb/neckbreaker combo and Gacy covers Ford for three!

I hope Bray Wyatt is smiling somewhere. I never thought I’d write AND NEW in the same sentence as Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis but here we are. The Profits impressive reign comes to an end and while I understand there’s story-telling happening here, I’m still kind of bummed for them. In terms of the match, it was probably Gacy and Lumis’s best outing as a team to date even if Lumis is still wildly awkward in the ring. The Profits are awesome at this point. This was an excellent bit of tag wrestling with just a hint of heels cheating and a title change on a clean finish. I’m good with all of that. 4*

Winners AND NEW WWE Tag Team Champions – The Wyatt Sicks (Double-team powerbomb/neckbreaker on Ford)

Post-match sees the Wyatts come into the ring to celebrate and pose with the new champs. Backstage watching the title change are the Motor City Machine Guns and FrAxiom. No one is happy about the title change as DIY and Candace LeRae join the scene. Sabin is livid with Gargano for what he pulled last week during the eight man tag. Gargano brushes that off and says that everyone needs to come together because the worst case scenario just happened. Ciampa says if everyone had listened to them in the first place this never would have happened but Axiom questions why anyone should listen to DIY. Ciampa says they know what’s best for the division but Frazer cuts him off. Frazer says the Wyatts are the champs but since the Wyatts cost them their shot at the Profits, FrAxiom should be first in line. Rey Fenix and Andrade enter and Andrade tells the assemblage that he and Fenix are now a full fledged tag team. Ciampa loses it as Gargano and LeRae push him away.

UFC’s Michael Chandler is in the audience as is Daniel Cormier. He’s sitting with the UFC’s Laura Sanko. There’s a drum set being assembled in the aisle as it’s apparently time for Jelly Roll’s appearance. We go to commercials.

When we come back it’s time for a look at Goldberg and GUNTHER’s build to their SNME match tomorrow evening. I’m never going to root harder for GUNTHER in my life, quite frankly. Mark Nash welcomes Jelly Roll to the stage.

Jelly Roll does his song “Liar” for the crowd but it’s interrupted by Logan Paul to a LOT of boos. Paul says everyone is there to see real WWE Superstars and not people who have tattoos of their children but don’t have custody of them. DUDE THE BURN UNIT IS AT THE BEACH THIS WEEK SLOW DOWN. Paul says Jelly Roll belongs on a stage and not in a WWE ring. Paul says he really doesn’t like when celebrities or influencers come into “OUR INDUSTRY” which…what a great line that is. Clout chasers like Jelly Roll disgust Paul and the WWE doesn’t need Jelly Roll, it needs Logan Paul. Paul says he sets and raises the bar for what it means to be a pro wrestler. Paul brags about his podcast being picked up by the WWE network but Jelly Roll tells him to hold on. He tells Paul he must not understand where he his because Nashville is Jelly Roll’s hometown (cheap pop, thumbs up!) and down here nobody gives a damn about Paul’s podcast. They go nose to nose off-mic.

Here’s Randy Orton to chastise Paul for calling Jelly Roll an “outsider” especially in Nashville. Orton calls Paul an “entitled whiny little bitch” and tells him to listen up. Orton is losing his mind at Paul but out of nowhere here’s Drew McIntyre to flatten Orton with a Claymore. McIntyre hovers over Orton as Security rushes the ring to pull him off. McIntyre’s hair looks like it came from the House of Kevin Nash tonight, very fluffy and flowing. Paul takes the opportunity to pound away at Orton and since Security is gone, Jelly Roll decides to grab Paul by the hair and pull him off of a helpless Orton. Jelly Roll heaves Paul to the mat and then floor. Jelly Roll berates Paul from the ring before helping Orton to his feet. Security comes flying back in to prevent Paul from re-entering. Nick Aldis is in the ring as they are treating this like it’s Steve Austin shoving Mike Tyson. Paul takes an acoustic guitar from the stage and smashes the drum kit before attempting to destroy the entire set up. Jelly Roll and Paul bark at each other as Orton is pleased with how this went, clearly.

This was actually tremendous all things considered. Tessitore treated it like it was actual chaos and Jelly Roll did a good job of executing what they had clearly planned out for him. Paul and McIntyre are top level heels and it shows. For what this was, it was pure sports entertainment and totally worked. We’ll see what happens out of this.

Back live and Tessitore runs down the WWE podcast list before Barrett narrates the highlights of the previous segment. Backstage Orton daps up Jelly Roll for having his back. Jelly Roll says he doesn’t trust Logan Paul so he wants to be in Orton’s corner at SNME. Orton says he’d be honored and that should be quite a scene.

Ron “R-Truth” Killings vs Aleister Black

Black charges at the bell but Truth ducks his high kick attempt and hits a huge leg lariat to Black. Truth splashes Black in the corner. Black slips off Truth’s shoulders and SWEEPS THE LEG. Black starts throwing fists and kicks as Truth backs into the corner. The ref pulls Black off and Truth advances so Black calmly kicks him in the stomach. Truth ducks a Black clothesline and hits Black with a cross body that looked slightly awkward because Black was turning away. Black bails to the floor but as Truth goes to run the ropes Black scampers back in and waffles Truth with a knee lift. Black dumps Truth to the floor but Truth scrambles away from Black’s moonsault attempt as Black lands on his feet. Truth runs Black into the ring post and then dumps him back in the ring. Truth grabs a chair from the timekeeper’s area but Black steps on it as Truth enters the ring. Black destroys Truth with a knee and then grabs the chair. The ref tells Black he’s going to DQ him if he uses it but Black raises it anyway. The ref grabs the chair out of Black’s hands and Truth rolls up Black for three. Well then.

Black had the reputation of being difficult to work with but he jobs clean as a sheet here. It’s amazing what getting to work with your wife will do, isn’t it? Just a television match, really not a whole lot to it. 1.5*

Winner – Ron “R-Truth” Killings (roll up)

Post-match sees Black stalk after Truth as he exits. Trish Stratus and WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton appear to be heading to the ring as Stratus is wearing a “Your First Crush” crop top that I expect will have a few comments tomorrow morning. Stratton is in all denim. We go to commercials.

Back live with Black continuing to stalk Truth and here’s Damien Priest to stop Black. Priest tells Black he lost and he’s got to let it go. Black says okay and he’s sorry, and he and Priest shake hands. Black says “On second thought…” and knees Priest in the face. Black runs Priest into a storage case and then hits a muay thai kick to Priest’s chest. Black wipes out Priest with Black Mass and leans down to tell Priest he can let it go now.

Wade Barrett is in the ring with Stratton and Stratus. Barrett says they have a dream match at Evolution for the title and asks Stratton why she chose Stratus to be her opponent. Stratton says it’s an obvious choice as she’s already beaten Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax, and Bayley and so why wouldn’t she want to face one of the best ever at Evolution. Stratton says when she wins maybe she’ll be considered one of the GOAT’s. Barrett says there has to be a lot of pressure on Stratus’s shoulders heading into this match and wonders how’s she’s handling it. Stratus says there is a lot of pressure but it should be Stratton who should be feeling it. Stratus says Stratton said it herself regarding what beating Stratus would mean for her career. When Stratus wins at Evolution she’ll leave with the championship and Stratton will leave with nothing. Stratus says she’s been doing it for 25 years and she’s going to deliver Stratus-faction on Sunday. Stratton says she’ll let Stratus live out her glory days but things are different now. Stratton has seen Stratus’s “VHS tape” of accomplishments as Barrett corpses. Stratus asks Stratton if she ordered the tape on Tik Tok (which isn’t the burn I think she thinks it is). Stratus says she’s built THIS DIVISION and she’s still delivering for THIS DIVISION. Stratus says she loves Stratton and thinks she’s a great champ but on Sunday she’s going to become an eight-time champion.

Here’s Ms. Money In The Bank Naomi to interrupt. Naomi wants to remind them of something but here’s Jade Cargill to blast Naomi from behind. Cargill starts pounding away as once again Aldis and Security have to intervene. Aldis has earned his money this week, Hunter. It’s a full Pier Six in front of the video board.

Tessitore runs down the SNME card. Jimmy Uso, who’s entrance is NOT quite as hyped as his brothers is, makes his entrance as we go to commercials prior to the main event.

Barrett tells us that Cody Rhodes and John Cena will both be at next week’s Smackdown as the abrupt build for Summerslam has to kick into high gear soon.

JC Mateo and Solo Sikoa vs Jimmy Uso and LA Knight

Talla Tonga and Tonga Loa are out with Mateo and Sikoa. Knight is distracted from outside as Sikoa pounces at the bell. Sikoa hits Knight with a headbutt and barks at him. Sikoa whips Knight to the ropes but Knight charges off and hits a rolling neckbreaker on Sikoa. Knight puts the boots to Sikoa in his team’s corner and tags in Uso before continuing to kick Sikoa. Knight taunts Mateo before hitting a hip attack on Sikoa, and then Uso does the exact same thing. Uso covers but Sikoa kicks out before any count happens. Sikoa rises and pops Uso in the mouth before driving him to his team corner. Mateo tags in and clobbers Uso with a couple of rights. Mateo drives a shoulder into Uso in the corner. Uso slips a Mateo charge in the opposite corner and hits Mateo with a right and a thrust kick before popping him in the mouth. Uso hits a Samoan Drop on Mateo for two.

Mateo rises and forearms Uso down as Sikoa shouts out orders. Sikoa tags in but Uso fights his way out of the corner. When Uso tries to run the ropes, Sikoa yanks him out of the ring and runs him face-first into the announce table. Sikoa hoists Uso up and Samoan Drops him on the announce table. Sikoa climbs on the table and poses over the fallen Uso as we go to picture-in-picture commercials.

During PIP Sikoa dumps Uso back in the ring and hits Uso with his own hip attack. Taking that move must be safer than it looks especially when Sikoa really flies in there. Sikoa drapes Uso over the second rope and rakes at his face. As referee Charles Robinson berates Sikoa for his actions Mateo comes over to further the attack on Uso. Mateo tags in while Robinson tends to an aggrieved Knight. Mateo tosses Uso in the corner and nails him with a flying elbow. Sikoa tags back in as Uso fires up. Uso is inches from a tag as Sikoa hangs on desperately. Sikoa manages to whip Uso into the corner second turnbuckle face-first in a vicious looking spot.

Back live with Sikoa yelling at Uso about how he loved him and can’t believe what he’s done. Sikoa hits another huge hip attack and tries for a third, but Uso ducks out of the way as Sikoa crashes into the corner. Mateo tags in and prevents Uso from tagging out by hoisting him up, but Uso flips onto his feet. Uso hits a roundhouse kick on Mateo and both guys are down. Uso finally makes it to his feet and leaps to tag in Knight. Knight ducks a Mateo clothesline attempt and knocks Sikoa off the apron. Knight waffles Mateo with rights and a big flying lariat. Mateo reverses an irish whip and sends Knight to the corner but Knight slips Mateo’s charge and hits him with a neckbreaker. Knight goes for the BFT but Mateo shoves him off. Mateo charges and Knight kicks him high before ducking a Sikoa clothesline attempt. Mateo gets a sneaky roll up on Knight for two. Mateo hoists Knight up but Knight slips off and drops Mateo with another neckbreaker. Knight ascends and tags in Uso while doing it. Knight hits his springboard elbow drop followed by Uso crushing Mateo with the Uso Splash. Uso covers for two as Sikoa breaks it up.

Sikoa kicks Knight off the apron and drags Mateo to their corner so he can tag in. Uso ducks a Samoan Spike attempt and superkicks Sikoa. Sikoa kicks Uso coming off the ropes and drops him with a uranage. Sikoa covers for two as Knight flies in to break it up. Knight dumps Mateo to the outside and then hits Mateo with a kick as he baseball slides through the ropes to the floor. Paul Heyman is in the timekeeper’s area holding up his cel phone as Knight approaches. Heyman backs off and as Knight turns he eats a giant boot from Talla Tonga. Back in the ring Uso sneaks over to roll up Sikoa for three.

I’d say this falls in the category of “okay”. It was a perfectly cromulent match with no major botches and while the heels cheated the finish was clean and puts some heat on the SNME match. Knight is wildly over and Sikoa and Mateo played their parts well. I think I would have switched this match on the card with the tag title match, if I’m honest. 2.5*

Winners – Jimmy Uso and LA Knight (Uso rolls up Sikoa)

Post-match action sees the MFT’s including Mateo chasing down an escaping Uso through the crowd. Sikoa is LIVID with Heyman for the distraction he caused but as he turns he eats a BFT from Knight. Knight hops on the second rope and yells at Heyman, but Bron Breakker has snuck into the ring and Knight doesn’t know. As Knight turns Breakker spears him in half as Bronson Reed flies in with a Tsunami on Knight. Breakker berates Knight as Security once again is called in. Heyman calls off the attack as the credits roll.

This show is SO MUCH BETTER at two hours I cannot even begin to tell you. This was a solid go-home for the two main roster shows happening this weekend all things considered. The tag title match was actually very good and everything else flowed well. The Jelly Roll thing will probably get mixed reviews but the crowd was wildly into it and so it was what it was. The women’s four-way was awkward at times but those competitors don’t work with each other a lot so I can let almost all of it slide. This should be a good weekend of shows for WWE even with the truncated builds and the presence of…ugh…Goldberg. Thumbs up from me for tonight’s show.
