What the World Was Watching: WWF Monday Night RAW – February 7, 1994

A video package recaps the tensions between Marty Jannetty and the Irwin R. Schyster that led to tonight’s feature match.

Vince McMahon and Bastion Booger are in the booth, taped from Bushkill, Pennsylvania. Booger keeps a gimmick throughout the show of eating lots of food.

Opening Contest: The Smoking Gunns (3-0) defeat Reno Riggins & Barry Horowitz when Billy pins Riggins after the powerbomb-flying elbow drop combination at 3:36:

Booger calls the combatants “half persons” because it would take two of them to make a big person like him. McMahon takes a subtle shot at the Steiner Brothers for not beating the Quebecers in 10 minutes on Superstars, saying that the top contender spot for the titles is wide open. Riggins and Horowitz try to do a spot where Horowitz accidentally backdrops Riggins and Riggins is supposed to last on his feet but Riggins cannot stick the landing. Later, Riggins tries to do a Northern Lights suplex to Bart but Bart counters it into the Gunns finish.

Owen Hart’s remarks from All American Wrestling air about what he did to Bret Hart at The Royal Rumble. He says it felt good to kick Bret in the leg because it exorcised a lifetime of frustration. Bret also had comments on the situation, still unhappy that he has to wrestle his brother. However, he recognizes that something must be done about the situation.

Owen Hart (4-0) defeats John Paul via submission to the Sharpshooter at 3:46:

Owen feigns giving a kid in a Bret Hart t-shirt at ringside his glasses before tearing them up, a great piece of heeling. Booger freaks out about a lack of pizza, demanding it from McMahon because it was part of their deal. He calls attention to Paul having two first names, meaning that he cannot be trusted. The crowd, especially kids, gets on Owen’s case by chanting for his brother as he takes Paul apart.

Paul Bearer is back in the cemetery, talking about how anyone who believes in the Undertaker has to imagine that he will return one day. The Undertaker is seen walking in the background as Bearer speaks.

Irwin R. Schyster (3-2) pins Marty Jannetty (1-0) after Johnny Polo interferes at 8:58 shown:

Before the match, IRS alleges that the Pocono’s have more tax cheats per capita than any area of Pennsylvania. The crowd is not as hot for Jannetty because they saw him wrestle a feature match at the taping already. Halfway through WWF Tag Team Champions the Quebecers come to ringside and attack Jannetty but are forced to return during a commercial break. A basic match unfolds until Polo comes out with a cue stick. Razor Ramon arrives to counter Polo, leading to the Quebecers returning to corner him. All of this puts the match in the background and as the referee tries to take stock of things, Polo trips Jannetty when he tries to slingshot into the ring, allowing IRS to win. Rating: **

After the match, Ramon gets in the ring and sends IRS out with an atomic drop. He and Jannetty brawl with the Quebecers, which ends with Jacques eating the Razor’s Edge.

McMahon reminds viewers that there is no Monday Night RAW next week because of the Westminster Dog Show. He also says that Ramon and Jannetty placed a call to WWF President Jack Tunney asking for a match with the Quebecers. If not for the 1-2-3 Kid’s injury it was probably the plan to do another Jannetty & the Kid vs. Quebecers match on RAW because of the high rating it pulled a month ago. Meanwhile, Booger eats pizza, hot dogs, and a barbecue sandwich.

Thurman Plugg (2-0) pins Duane Gill after the Overhead Cam at 3:03:

Booger starts choking on his food and coughs it up, exposing how the commentary is taped because a camera shot includes the commentary table and Booger is sitting there doing nothing. McMahon says that Plugg is “Red line all the way,” whatever that means. He then puts over the Daytona 500 as NASCAR’s version of WrestleMania. Plugg finally makes his flying knee drop finish look like a knee drop instead of a splash.

Todd Pettengill does the WrestleMania X Report. WWF Champion Yokozuna, Jim Cornette, and Mr. Fuji say that they are not bothered by two title matches at the pay-per-view. They are angry that Lex Luger won the coin toss because he should not be facing Yokozuna in the first place.

Crush (w/Mr. Fuji) (3-0) defeats Dave Thornberg after a leg drop at 2:38:

Thornberg appeared twice in 1993, losing to Mr. Hughes and the Headshrinkers.

McMahon talks about a contract signing between Randy Savage and Crush that will take place on WWF Mania. That is about as much talk as the WrestleMania match gets as McMahon prefers to discuss FOX offering Diane Sawyer a $10 million contract. Booger tells McMahon he does not want the food he has consumed tonight taken out of his check. After Crush wins with a leg drop, McMahon says that the Quebecers will face Ramon and Jannetty in two weeks.

WWF Tag Team Champions the Quebecers and Johnny Polo are outraged that they have to face Ramon and Jannetty in two weeks, screaming about how it is a conspiracy. Pierre punches a wall in frustration until he puts a hole in it.

McMahon gives Booger some Alpo and Milk Bones from the crew. Booger eats the Milk Bones.

The Four Doinks, Doink the Clown, and Dink reunite to do some barking sounds.

In two weeks, tune in to see WWF Tag Team Champions the Quebecers defending against Razor Ramon & Marty Jannetty! Also, Bret Hart faces a member of the Heavenly Bodies!

The Last Word: One would have expected Bastion Booger’s commentary to be a trainwreck but he had some funny lines. That made him a better guest commentator than Rob Bartlett’s 1993 run. Like the previous week, RAW effectively built up a match for its next episode although Marty Jannetty will not make it there because of his recent firing in Europe. That will require another feature match substitution in a list of many for RAW in the first quarter of 1994.
