Snap Thoughts: NXT Vengeance Day February 15th 2025
By Phrederic on 15 February 2025
So going to pop in with another snap thoughts after NXT. It’s my favorite show after all and I just wanted to get some quick opinions in there. This is SUPER informal and I probably am going to miss stuff.
Fallon Henley (c) vs. Stephanie Vaquer – NXT North American Women’s Championship
Just sorta whatever it needed to be. A perfectly fine match where Steph got her shine, took heat with Fatal Influence’s interference and then fired back for a win, shave 5 minutes off and it’s much better but as is it’s totally acceptable wrestling.
This was Meh.
Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom) (c) vs. Josh Briggs and Yoshiki Inamura – NXT Tag Team Championship
Continuing the number one contender’s match on NXT, this was a non-stop sprint where both teams did a ton of stuff and the champions retained. I am bored with Fraxiom’s reign, but at the same time a thrown together team like Briggs and Inamura winning feels weird too. Still, they did ALL the stuff here and it was very fun.
This was Good.
Eddy Thorpe vs. Trick Williams – Strap Match
There were parts of this match I liked, Trick was a good fired up babyface just kicking butt and taking names, Eddy initially getting heat by using the strap (his signature match) to gain control was decent. And then it continued, and Thorpe continued to dominate without the use of the ropes, and the match continued, and continued, and then Trick lost. Just an intensely irritating match and “oh but the heel winning is supposed to make you mad” and it doesn’t, it makes me tired and it makes Trick look like a total buster as we have to continue this Thorpe run.
This was Bad.
Ethan Page vs. Je’Von Evans
I know I don’t like either guy all that much, but man what a disappointing matchup. Evans at least looked angry for part of it and tried to sell his leg, but Page had a guy with a hurt jaw, and then they worked his ankle, and then the finish was the guy springboarding into a punch. Goofy psychology and another goofy heel win.
This was Bad
Oba Femi (c) vs. Grayson Waller vs. Austin Theory – NXT Championship
Tremendous fun and my MOTN. Oba being ALMOST tough enough to win 1v2 but being stymied by his opponents trickery until the heels fell into infighting and collapsed and let him win. Very good stuff, both of them bumped and sold very well (with Waller in particular being top-notch). Just a very good time and my MOTN.
This was Good.
Post-match we got the squad that attacked Fraxiom going after Oba and doing their best budget Shield impression. Oba selling a beating post-match is fine, but man, these guys don’t look cool at all and I am not excited, fingers crossed it works but these dorks? Eh.
This was Bad.
Giulia (c) vs. Bayley vs. Cora Jade vs. Roxanne Perez – NXT Women’s Championship
Well they certainly stuffed a lot in this match, and it’s nice to see the women main-event. But boy oh boy this was sloppy. Tons of blown spots and ugly sequences and I get that’s how these multi-person matches work, but they’re just ugly out there. I do like that Giulia finally felt like a character with her picking and choosing her spots and finally isolating somebody for the finish, but this match was way too clunky.
This was Meh.
And then we got Jordynne Grace, yay.
A very fine show if nothing more than that. Hopefully NXT will improve after all of this.
