Chairshots

By Scott Keith on 27 July 2024

Opinions seem to vary on blood and guts this past week, with some loving the violence and others thinking it was overkill. Personally I thought it sucked and that AEW's version of Wargames it by far the worst. But their seems to be a crowd that enjoys it, even if its more a niche following than anything. My question is, gimmicked chair or not, why would Tony allow that chairshot to happen? Especially Perry of all people, who already had heat from the Punk stuff with him waiting to do the real glass spot and supposedly Punk getting asked to talk him out of it. I can't see this helping change opinions of Perry and if anything, gives credence to Punks complaints about TK and Perry. The amount of crazy spots that took place, what did that chairshot really add? And does it help AEW, a company that has a perception by some critics of already being too dangerous and gory, when they are in the middle of negotiations of new TV rights to have thos being one of the biggest things fans are talking about from that match?

Forget what we saw back in the Attitude Era days, we now know the damage chair shots can do. Even gimmicked, no one should be taking chairshots like that. This ain't the first time AEW has done this either, Cody still has a gigantic scare on his head for the Shawn Spears chairshot he took in the early days. AEW has also already dealt with alot of concussion related issues in their short history that hasn't helped them either, including Sammy concussing both Hardys and matches continuing, as well as Adam Cole, Bunny, and Yuta sustaining really bad concussions they kept them out an extended timeframe. Wrestling is dangerous, I get that, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try to be as safe as possible.

Tony gave a no answer about it yesterday, and the Young Bucks did the same today. I would assume by those non answers they were expecting any backlash, which is the bigger problem. Even Dave crapped on them about the spot, and it's hard to get him to say anything bad Bucks related. And we can't forget this was the same match that involved covering Perry in gasoline and threatening to light him on fire, which I am sure is a huge selling point to potential advertisers. I don't think AEW loses their TV deal or anything crazy, nor should they. But there has to be a big reason it's still not done yet, and I am not sure matches like B&G are helping them much.

Oh, Fatness didn't like an AEW match, film at 11.

But yes, chairshots are very bad and I would live happily never seeing another chair to the head again.
