Starrcade 2000

Everyone talks about how much better WCW got once Russo finally fucked off in early October 2000. I'm not a fan of Russo's WCW work but frankly I never really saw this “big improvement” that most others spout about WCW “finally starting to get on track again”. Really I just saw the promotion get kinda boring again, not unlike Sullivan's early 2000 stuff. Again, Im not advocating for Vince Russo here. But anyways WCW 2000 was an abomination and that cannot be blamed on Vince Russo. They legit thought Scott Steiner vs. Sid Vicious and Goldberg vs. Luger Part 2 would be worthy of WCW's version of Wrestlemania. Yes guys like Booker T, Flair and Sting were injured but that's really no excuse.
The obvious main event here is Steiner vs. Goldberg. Steiner had given Goldberg his worse defeat EVER a few months earlier and there was still interest in the feud. I think that match alone with even halfway competent build would have yeilded…..well. not a GREAT buyrate but it probably would have been better than the buyrate they got with Steiner/Sid.
They always could have gone for some one off shock matches. Like bringing in Vader to take on Steiner or Goldberg. Or bringing in friggin Warrior to take on Goldberg. I'm not saying these would have saved WCW or even been good matches but they damn sure would have got fetched WCW a better buyrate than what Starrcade 2000 got. Right?
Didn’t matter what they put on, it was a loser brand by December and no one was buying their PPVs. Keeping it cheap and in house was the best idea until they could secure a buyer and stabilize the company again.
