Instant Classic Shows

I thought this might be an interesting topic for the blog — what wrestling shows registered as instant classics for you? Shows where the takeaways are things like “this is the most fun I've ever had watching a show”, “I've never seen a better one” or “this is amongst those shows I consider in the pantheon of great shows”.

For me they would be: Great American Bash 1989, WrestleMania 8 (height of my Macho Man markdom and a retirement-to-champ-in-a-year story), ECW Barely Legal, WrestleMania 17 and AEW All In 2021. What say you?

Well Bash 89 was one where I didn’t even get to see the show until months later on VHS and them not the full PPV version until the modern era. Barely Legal wasn’t carried in Canada so again, didn’t see it until weeks after the fact. But I remember Wrestlemania X being the first PPV I ordered and watched live that really blew me away in the moment. And of course X-7. And yeah, at the end of All In 2021 I was more hyped for AEW than any promotion in YEARS.
