Close the Door
By Scott Keith on 24 June 2024
Is it time to scrap the forbidden door concept, or at least not make it an annual event? While the build to this year as better than previous years, I have to think it's a big part of the ratings tanking the past month. It feels like when wwe would have a hell in the Cell match because of a date on a calendar and not because the feud calls for it. The same can be said for the upcoming Blood and Guts, there is really no reason for the match. The hottest match on the card on the PPV has nothing to do with the forbidden door, and even the Toni match could be happening without the forbidden door concept. I feel like Tony needs to hunker down, not let anyone wrestle outside of aew right now to avoid potential injuries so he has everyone at his disposal, and try to concentrate on breathing some life back into AEW, not wasting time building feuds with other promotions. Even MJF returning hasn't led to much fanfare in the few weeks he has been back. I understand last week might be a fluke, but the ratings have been regularly going down and the promotion has felt ice cold for awhile. Also, ditch the Elite takeover and Jerichi stuff, it's absolutely terrible and feels like it sucking the life out of the promotion. And hire an actual booker.
Very reasonable suggestions.
