Cody

Scott,
I know you don't watch the WWE product regularly, but one thing bothers me about Uber babyface Cody.
Every time Cody comes out on the winning end of a blood feud, he has to cut a promo showing a ridiculous amount of respect for his opponent.
I don't recall Dusty getting jumped by The Horsemen every week, then cutting a promo about how much he respects Flair and his boys for attacking him in a parking lot.
It's sometimes hard to get invested in a feud when you know that the next night, Cody is going to basically thank his opponent for allowing the “American Nightmare” to share their ring.
You recall wrong. Dusty put over Ric Flair and the Horsemen as elite athletes and the best in the business ALL THE TIME. I know I joke about how much the heels had to put Dusty over, but Dusty would also go out there and be like “Ric Flair, you're the World champion, and that means you're the best in the business with the biggest limousines and the best hookers and blow, daddy, but the Dream is gonna…” and then he'd go off from there. Dusty and the old guard understood that trashing your opponent and making them sound like they don't belong in the ring with you just means fans won't see your opponents as a big deal to be beaten. If Cody just trashes all his opponents on the way down, you quickly run into an Alexander the Great situation where you've conquered everyone and then there's nowhere left to go. Kind of like the downside of Goldberg's initial streak, where he just laid waste to everyone and then WCW was out of ideas.
