WBD/AEW Predictions
By Scott Keith on 14 May 2024
Good morning Mr. Keith. FaskandStein here. With the Warner Brothers Discovery Upfronts scheduled for tomorrow, do you have a prediction on AEW's status? My opinion on their current issues aside, I'm absolutely pulling for them and would be jumping for joy if I hear of a an affordable streaming service deal, so I can watch them from the ground up again. It's the lack of excitement, and no news of a “:major announcement” scheduled for Dynamite tomorrow that has me worried. Usually Tony Khan is the last person i want to see or hear from in any fashion, but I was kinda hoping a bunch of hints would be dropping for weeks now leading up and so far nothing. God knows that man can't shut up about anything as it is.
Disregarding the AEW question for the moment because they’re still in an exclusive negotiation period with WBD anyway, I would like to instead deflect to a related rant and note that David Zaslav might be one of the worst CEOs in history of the entertainment industry. Destroying the brand recognition of HBO, then selling off the DC movie universe for scrap, then letting the NBA walk away is like the holy trinity of stupid moves. I mean, I like cooking shows and true crime documentaries as much as the next guy but you can’t build a media empire on just those. And yet here we are.
Anyway, you have to assume that AEW will get the bag now that the NBA is a goner and there’s nothing else on Turner networks but who the hell knows what Zaslav will wake up and decide tomorrow.
