Kicking Hornet’s Nests is FUN!

By Scott Keith on 6 May 2024

Why do discussions about WMIII's attendance tend to get heated? Bring up Dave's figures and some choice Meltzer name-calling will surely follow. But why this particular issue? Wrestling works attendance numbers all the time; why would this be any different?
Also, announcers on the weekly TV were parroting the 90K figure during the build-up, which should be a strong tip-off that the 93 173 number was a fib.

On the other hand, adhering to the 78K figure as the real attendance seems suspect logically: the Silverdome held 80K for football, and there are no empty seats that I've ever been able to spot, so to say that there's less than that in a packed house
doesn't make much sense. I'll go out on a limb and say there's no way there's 13 000 people on the floor, so if I had to guess, 84K or thereabouts is the real number (and it's such hilariously wrestling mentality that that's not considered “impressive” enough,
so we'll beef it up to 93 000).

In the end, can't everyone declare a truce whenever this comes up and agree that there were more than 78K in the building, but less than 93K? What's so funny about peace, love, and understanding?

PS. The Pope's attendance figures for the Silverdome were worked as well.
Dude, the Catholic Church are the original workers! You should hear about the ribs they used to play on Galileo back in the day.
