Wrestlers being unfit to perform

Scott,
Just revisiting the 2011 Victory Roa Hardy / Sting debacle.
Two questions.
.1. Given that Jeff Hardy's condition was only seen moments before the main event, do you think in all the circumstances Bischoff handled the disaster in the least-awful way possible?
2. Given how strung out wrestlers were in the 80s / 90s, it is just good luck that we never had a drugged-out performer killing / maiming someone (leaving aside Chuck Austin, which was pretty clearly inexperience)?
1. I think so. There wasn't really any “good” play for that one.
2. The fact that the Rockers could operate on such a high level while drunk and/or hungover as often as they were just shows what fantastic workers they really were. But yeah, especially in the coke-laced 80s, it's really kind of shocking that something more horrible didn't happen in the ring. Like I don't know how the Von Erichs DIDN'T end up dying of an overdose in the ring at some point.
