Darby’s Suicide Mission
By Scott Keith on 5 March 2024
Where you at with Darby? I saw the spot where he dove from 15 feet up in the air onto a pane of glass supported by some folding chairs shared a bunch on Twitter today and saw his resultant gnarly open wound. This shit is very much not for me, and it’s making me actively avoid his work. He seems intent on either dying or permanently maiming himself on live TV. Hell, I didn’t like it and found it sort of unnecessary and irresponsible when Ethan Page (I think) put him in a body bag and heaved him down the stairs years ago as part of a forgettable angle. I doubt anyone even really remembers that but it’s probably part of a body of work that has taken years off his career, if not his life. If I’m the dorky uptight square here, that’s more than fine, but was curious about your thoughts.
Back in my day guys didn’t need to jump through panes of glass to get over. They did a jumping knee and called it a high spot and then went on to work for the next 40 years. In fact injuries weren’t even invented until 1989 and even then it was just because they needed a reason to get the belt off Lou Thesz.
