When less isn’t more….

To piggyback off of the discussion about accessories that helped make
a character, what are some instances of somebody REMOVING a part of
their look, much to your personal chagrin (so this isn't to say their
career or gimmick suffered, you just missed it)?
I know his career ended up being just fine, but I always thought Edge
looked so much cooler when he would wear sunglasses during his
entrance (especially when he'd match them with his jacket/gear). I
was always disappointed he ditched them during the Rated R Superstar
era.
Honky Tonk Man not having the IC title over his outfit made him seem like so much less of a star. Not just that he wasn’t the champion but the look with the belt was iconic.
