The 25 Days of Von Erichs – Day Fourteen

By Rock Star Gary on 10 December 2023

For 12 days until Iron Claw is released, I present to you genuine moments in World Class Championship Wrestling history in chronological order.

Today, we look at December 3, 1983 from Reunion Arena:

Jose Lothario, Johnny Mantell, & Mike Reed defeated Blackie Gordman, Boris Zhukov, & Tonga John.

In his in-ring debut, Mike Von Erich beat General Skandor Akbar.

Match 3 for the NWA American tag team titles: The Super Destroyers (champions w/ Gen. Skandor Akbar) versus “Iceman” King Parsons & Junkyard Dog

Highlights:

  • #1 gave JYD a cross corner whip but ate a forearm during his follow-through.
  • When tags were exchanged on both sides, Parsons reversed an Irish whip yet received a hip toss.
  • He leapfrogged #2 and followed with a dropkick.
  • As JYD tagged in, #2 tried to ram him head-first into #1’s knee.
  • JYD no-sold it and head-butted both Super Destroyers. That’s one hard head!
  • After #1 tagged in, JYD gave him a cross corner whip but came up empty on his follow-through.
  • Parsons tagged in and delivered a butt butt.
  • Do we have new champions?
  • 1-2-NO!
  • #2 saved his partner and the titles.
  • With all four wrestlers in the ring, #1 made Parsons HIT THE POLE.
  • Parsons was BUSTED OPEN!
  • When JYD tagged in, he backdropped #1.
  • He slammed #2 while Parsons was removed from the ring for medical attention.
  • As #1 tagged in, he landed an elbow drop for 2.
  • #2 tagged in, mounted the second turnbuckle, and hit an axe handle.
  • After Parsons returned with his head bandaged, referee Bronko Lubich called for the bell.
  • Methinks he disqualified JYD due to Parsons’ interference.
  • The Super Destroyers retained.

Rating: *½

Summary: Although Parsons and JYD are tremendously popular with the Dallas faithful, this match barely had any flow, and Parsons’ return causing a DQ made no sense. I realize keeping the belts on the Super Destroyers was important, but the decision stunk on Melba toast.

After the match, Parsons unceremoniously dumped Akbar into the ring. #2 then held Parsons so that Akbar could toss a FIREBALL in his face. How dastardly!

Stay tuned for more WCCW goodness tomorrow!
