The 25 Days of Von Erichs – Day Ten
By Rock Star Gary on 6 December 2023

For 16 days until Iron Claw is released, I present to you genuine moments in World Class Championship Wrestling history in chronological order.
Today, we look at June 25, 1983 from Reunion Arena:
“Gentleman” Chris Adams, Chavo, Guerrero, & Jose Lothario beat “Wild” Bill Irwin, the Mongol, & the Fishman (w/ Gen. Skandor Akbar).
Match 2 for the NWA Texas title (vacant): David Von Erich versus “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (w/ Sunshine)
Highlights:
- David hip-tossed Garvin and followed with a dropkick.
- As David missed a second dropkick, Garvin earned a 1-count.
- He slammed David for another 1-count.
- When David hooked an inside cradle, he got 2.
- He secured an O’Connor roll for another 2.
- While the Dallas faithful chanted “go David, go,” their hero slammed Garvin.
- He scored with a high knee, yet Garvin escaped an Iron claw thanks to the ropes.
- After he delivered a knee lift, David got 2.
- He applied a sleeper, but Garvin made the ropes.
- As David gave him a cross corner whip, Garvin exploded with a running knee for 2.
- David attempted a cross body block, but Garvin countered by guillotining him with the top rope for 2.
- When Garvin made another cover and altered referee Bronko Lubich’s view, Sunshine grabbed David’s boot. SNEAKY!
- 1-2-3.
- WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION!
Rating: *½
Summary: Wiley and clever heel shenanigans helped Garvin to regain the Texas title much to the chagrin of the Dallas faithful.
Following a commercial break, Lowrance announces that due to Sunshine’s actions, the Texas title will be held up once again. Garvin protests but to no avail.
Match 3 (hair): “Iceman” King Parsons versus Buddy Roberts
Highlights:
- Roberts ambushed him at the onset, but Parsons hooked a sunset flip for 2.
- When Roberts slammed him, he followed with an elbow drop for 1.
- Another slam attempt by Roberts resulted in Parsons’ landing on top for 2.
- As Parsons delivered a cross body block, he got another 2.
- Roberts then sought refuge outside the ring, but Parsons brought him back in the hard way.
- While Mercer mentioned that “Nature Boy” Ric Flair lost the NWA World title to Harley Race on 6/10,
- Parsons chopped Roberts but couldn’t get 3.
- Parsons slammed Roberts for yet another 2.
- After Roberts got tied up in the ropes, Parsons nailed him to a great reaction from the Dallas faithful.
- He hip-tossed Roberts and followed with an elbow drop for a fifth consecutive 2-count.
- When Parsons hooked an abdominal stretch, Roberts escaped but missed a series of elbow drops.
- Parsons rolled up Roberts from the corner but only got 2.
- As Roberts reversed the roll-up, he practically disrobed Parsons while grabbing the tights.
- That caused a BIG BLUE SPOT on the screen to protect innocent eyes.
- 1-2-3.
- Roberts won.
- On the other hand, referee David Manning questioned Roberts about pulling Parsons’ trunks, so Roberts hit a swinging neckbreaker on Parsons.
- He retrieved the hair removal cream and fought with Manning over it.
- After Parsons nailed Roberts, he delivered a butt butt.
- He then grabbed the cream and lathered it all over Roberts’ head.
Rating: ***
Summary: Although Roberts cheated to win, he ultimately lost the battle of hair. He did a great job of selling prior to stealing the victory however.
Afterward, Hayes rescues his fellow Freebird and brawls with Parsons in the ring. When Parsons retrieves the hair cream, Hayes bolts out of the ring quicker than a politician being caught in a brothel.
Stay tuned for more WCCW goodness tomorrow!
