My twitter feed is filled with all kinds of fun wrestling clips. Recently there were two videos presented on the (rightfully accused of) overused of the Panama Sunrise/Canadian Destroyer in both AEW & WWE. And I see a ton of great DDT sell job clips from those two and NJPW, and sidenote: PAC i think is the king of taking the ddt these days.
Having said that, to my knowledge the Piledriver is still banned in the WWE. I'm not qualified to answer this as I never stepped in a ring, but is there any wrestler feedback on the Sunrise, and in some instances, the ddt spot, being even more dangerous than a standard piledriver? When done very well, some of the visuals of both the giver and receiver for both moves, it looks like a lot more room for error, and the head comes A LOT closer to the mat, than when I see a standard piledriver (mostly on AEW) being performed these days.
I don't think it's any more dangerous, and really I think stuff like the diving headbutts and spears are more dangerous to the long-term health of the wrestlers. Really it's just a few bad piledriver experiences that have soured people on the move overall. Obviously Undertaker and Kane have been tombstoning people for 30 years and they're all still alive.
