According to thehistoryofwwe.com, Wrestling Spotlight featured an exclusive match. Here was the result of that bout:
-Irwin R. Schyster (1-0) pinned Koko B. Ware (2-5) with the Write Off
Vince McMahon, Randy Savage, and Roddy Piper provide commentary to conclude the long tapings from Omaha, Nebraska.
Opening Contest: The Ultimate Warrior (3-1) defeats Smash (w/Mr. Fuji) (0-1) with a splash at 5:01:
McMahon argues that the Warrior is different since being locked in a casket by the Undertaker but the existing storylines do not support that as the Warrior is still wrestling and acting the same way. The match is just the Warrior and Smash throwing strikes at each other until the Warrior goes into his shaking the ropes routine to finish. After the Warrior’s win, the announce crew puts over that he now has the confidence needed to face the Undertaker. Rating: ½*
Gene Okerlund’s Update segment recaps the beatdown of the Big Bossman by the Nasty Boys and the Mountie on last week’s episode. Afterward, the Mountie and Jimmy Hart insist that they showed the Bossman some mercy but he will not be so lucky if they cross paths again.
Power & Glory (w/Slick) (7-1) defeat Dan Robbins & Buck Zumhoff when Paul Roma pins Robbins after a torture rack-flying elbow combination at 3:23:
The Bushwhackers do an insert promo about how they will defeat Power & Glory by striking them from multiple angles. McMahon is more interested in promoting the WBF than the match, a consequence of Hercules spending time between spots showing his physique. Robbins takes a nasty bump from the finish, landing on his head.
Irwin R. Schyster (2-0) beats Red Tyler with the Write Off at 2:15:
Piper squeals “Irwin” several times during the bout, implying that Schyster would not like that. The big spot of the squash is Schyster working an abdominal stretch and grabbing the ropes for leverage.
The British Bulldog (16-0) beats Tony Squire with the running powerslam at 2:39:
McMahon will not keep talking about the fitness expo at the WBF Championship at the Taj Mahal on this show, insisting now that the Bulldog would fit in there with his look. The Bulldog clotheslines Squire against the buckles and finishes with the running powerslam to maintain momentum for his pursuit of the Intercontinental Championship.
Okerlund interviews Ted DiBiase and Sensational Sherri. DiBiase repeats his argument that Sherri has more class than Virgil and that Virgil made a mistake listening to Piper. He tells Piper that he will need a crutch again because he has come back too quickly from his knee injury. Sherri closes the segment that DiBiase’s money makes him more of a man than Virgil or Piper could ever hope to be.
Jake Roberts (10-0) pins Tom Bennett after the DDT at 3:03:
Roberts works Bennett’s arm as the Earthquake and Jimmy Hart do an insert promo warning Roberts to keep Lucifer away from them. Bennett tries to kick the snake bag and that makes Roberts more aggressive, finishing the jobber with some punches, short-arm clothesline, and DDT. After the match, Roberts dumps Lucifer on Bennett.
Aaron Baker lifts dumbbells and hypes the WBF Championship as a chance to redefine bodybuilding.
The Barbarian (w/Bobby Heenan) (4-2-1) pins Sonny Blaze with a Mafia kick at 1:34:
This squash allows McMahon to continue the WBF hype and preview the next episode of Prime Time Wrestling where the Barbarian will be a guest. The Barbarian quickly rolls through Blaze, but no mention is made of his house show feud with Bret Hart.
Tune in next week to see the Rockers, Colonel Mustafa, Bret Hart, WWF Tag Team Champions the Nasty Boys, and Intercontinental Champion Mr. Perfect in action! Also, Jake Roberts will be a guest on the Funeral Parlor!
The Last Word: The WBF and fitness exposition hype got tiresome on this broadcast as the announce team appeared more interested in discussing the physiques of wrestlers instead of existing storylines. The only draw this show had was the Ultimate Warrior match in the beginning because he rarely wrestled on television and after that fans had no reason to stick around.
