Good morning, Scott –
I have a no-snark question about Cody.
From your perspective, what should his on-screen role be? I know a LOT of what he does is cringe-worthy, but he IS over(ish) with the crowd, and I’d place him in the lower end of the main event tier players on AEW (or the top of the midcard).
He’s not in the world title picture, and he’s not sniffing around the TNT title lately – he just seems like he exists in his own little universe.
So what’s his role that would maximize his effectiveness? World title player? Dolph Ziggler type who’s the gatekeeper for new additions to the roster? Tag team?
I think the Ziggler gatekeeper role is a good one, because he's hard to have a bad match against, and having a great match with him is usually a sign that someone is ready for bigger things. I think ultimately Cody needs to let go of his on-screen “living up to his daddy's legacy” issues a bit because he's not Dusty Rhodes and can't be. Dusty was the booker, but Cody has managed to create his own company and that's pretty damn impressive.
