Wrestling and Movie Tie-Ins

By Scott Keith on 17th May 2021

Scott-

Full disclosure: I haven’t watched WM Backlash. I’ve only read your review, but based on that, it sounds like these Zombies were some sort of tie-in to the upcoming “Army of the Dead” movie, which leads me to a broader question:

Has there ever been a successful wrestling/movie tie-in? Involving Robocop in Capitol Combat didn’t go very well. Kevin Nash as Oz in support of Turner buying the rights to The Wizard of Oz was a flop. Watching Umaga kick the crap out of Steve-O was fun but probably didn’t help whichever Jackass movie they were shilling, and the segment itself was a trainwreck. Then of course, the mother of all wrestling/movie tie-ins, David Arquette winning the title as part of the promotion for Ready to Rumble may not have caused WCW to fold, but it sure didn’t help! Maybe bringing in Tiny Lister in support of No Holds Barred, but even that is questionable.

What say you and the blog readers? Has there ever been a tie-in that has made you say, “Damn, I need to see this movie because of what they did with these wrestlers!”

Thanks for all you continue to do!

Andy

Don’t forget the famously hideous appearance of Jeremy Piven and Dr. Ken, which gave us “Summerfest”. I don’t even remember what movie that was for.
On the good side, Mickey Rourke kinda sorta. And maybe Kane promoting See No Evil?
