Daily News and Chat: March 4, 2021

Good morning, folks, and we are at the Blog of Doom Event Center to report the latest news and updates. As always, our friends at CageSide Seats have compiled these, and I just relay them.

  • According to Fightful, there will be an NXT TakeOver on WrestleMania weekend, held Thursday, April 8.
  • WrestleMania tickets will go on sale next week.
  • The NXT move has nothing to do with the Wednesday Night War, according to Alvarez. It’s all about the NHL finding a new home on Wednesday nights on USA, and hockey does better ratings than NXT.
  • Also, at one point there was consideration to make this week’s show the loaded event instead of next week’s. Then someone found out that Shaq was making an appearance on Dynamite and thought it a lost cause to compete with that. So, Bryan says, the decision was made to do next week as the big show.
  • The decision by New Japan to take Marty Scurll off programming is entirely due to locker room pressure. In fact, some names would not have shown up if they knew Marty was backstage.

Also, tonight on IWTV, Beyond Wrestling’s Signature Series continues. Matt Makowski and Wheeler YUTA open their accounts in the Greatest Rivals Round Robin, and the Tournament for Tomorrow heats up as the Nouveau Aesthetic face the Shook Crew in opening round action.

This weekend in Alabama, New South Pro is putting on a two-day tournament, the Heart Of the South Sixteen. Participants include indie stalwarts Logan Easton LaRoux and O’Shay Edwards alongside AEW Dark veteran Adam Priest as well as former WWE ECW wrestlers Colin Delaney and Davey Boy Smith Jr. In addition, the Independent Wrestling championship will be on the line on night two as WARHORSE battles the masked Genkai. All action can be seen on IWTV.

GCW returns on Saturday with Take Kare — their spelling, not ours. Rickey Shane Page puts the GCW title on the line against Joey Janela, but if Page retains, then he and not Janela will get to run the Spring Break event. In addition, the usual hardcore action from GCW as Jimmy Lloyd and G-Raver meet in a no rope barbed wire match. FITE will be providing coverage for this event.

This has been the Event Center for Thursday. Enjoy highlights of all the action, up next.
