Who Cares about a Screwjob

Not sure if I've seen this line of questioning but…Say Bret stays in WWE after the screwjob. What happens. Does he go home and not used, Shawn quits because of drugs, and then he comes back to a hero's welcome, and we all get Bret/Austin/HHH feuds with heel Mcmahon spiced in until Rock shows up? Because that sounds fine.
Bret couldn't stay in the WWF afterwards. That's why Vince screwed him out of the title, because he deliberately breached the 20 year contract so that he wouldn't have to pay Bret the money. This wasn't just “Oh, my contract is up so I'm going to WCW”.
