The Von Erich’s “cousin”

I really miss all the Von Erich talk around here that used to be inspired by all their crazy antics as witnessed by the Observer rants.
Now I know the timeline doesn't quite match up but let's talk about Lance Von Erich. One of things mentioned by Gary Hart and Kevin (in the WWE produced Triumph and Tragedy of World Class Championship Wrestling ) was that Lance was easily recognizable since he was a local Texas athlete. Would someone from outside of Texas worked better or was it a dead issue to start. Surely a fake Von Erich isn't as good as the genuine article but would James Hellwig debuting sooner as Lance Von Erich or James Von Erich worked better?
The problem with the whole idea is that it was based on the reality of the Von Erich family, and people would know that whoever was in the role was not a true Von Erich. Although Hellwig as Dingo Von Erich, the lost Australian cousin, might have drawn millions, I'm not gonna lie.
