HHH vs Styles?

Around this time last year the WWE aired an angle with A.J. Styles punching Vince McMahon after McMahon slapped Styles on Smackdown. Was HHH vs A.J. Styles the Plan B for Wrestle-Mania if Batista couldn't go?
I don't believe so. That was probably just a thing they did.
