Hogan’s dry run as a heel?

I remember for a short time in WCW in late 1995 they had Hogan wearing black and not acting like his normal character before going back to the red and yellow and "brother" stuff. Was this a dry run of sorts to test how he'd work out as a heel prior to Bash At The Beach 1996, or did they have something else in mind altogether?
They had nothing in mind, they were just doing shit to "work the boys" and desperately trying to find ways to make people not boo Hogan.
