–Eric Bischoff and Bobby Heenan are today’s commentators and they are taped from Orlando, Florida. Both men hype the Hulk Hogan-Vader main event for SuperBrawl.
–Opening Handicap Match: Avalanche (w/Kevin Sullivan & the Butcher) defeats Leroy Howard & Butch Long after he pins both men after the Avalanche Splash at 1:29:
Howard and Long were also jobbers for the WWF, with Howard most well known for coming off the top rope and accidentally hitting his partner when they were trying to perform a standard tag team maneuver during a squash match. Avalanche destroys both men with ease, creating an enjoyable squash for the viewers at home.
–Gene Okerlund interviews the Nasty Boys. They say that they love Baltimore and will win the WCW Tag Team Championship because the fans will be on their side.
–Surveillance footage of Colonel Robert Parker and Meng visiting a police station and bailing out the Blacktop Bully is shown. The Bully is in jail for driving recklessly, refusing to pull over, and assaulting a bevy of police officers. Parker did not bring the $75,000 that was required to bail the Bully out, which made the Bully upset. The segment dragged out a long time but it provides a good backstory for the Parker-Bully relationship.
–The Blacktop Bully (5-0) (w/Colonel Robert Parker & Meng) beat Todd Morton via submission to the Breaker 1-9 at 3:02:
Bischoff incorrectly calls the Breaker 1-9 when the Bully applies a modified hammerlock forcing Heenan to correct him so that the Bully’s mystique is not ruined. Morton manages a few small dropkicks on a comeback but that merely ticks the Bully off and the Breaker 1-9 sends Morton to the showers as a loser.
–The premiere edition of WCW Magazine hits the shelf this week! Hulk Hogan is on the cover!
–Okerlund provides the SuperBrawl Report. WCW Champion Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart note that there are a lot of doubts about whether he can defeat Vader but those are misguided. He promises not to leave SuperBrawl in a wheelchair.
–Call 1-900-909-9900 to hear what happened to Harley Race!
–Brian Pillman is enjoying the California sun!
–Lord Steven Regal (2-0) defeats Brian Costello via submission to the Regal Stretch at 2:35:
Regal is not enthused to be wrestling the overweight Costello, quickly taking him to the mat, grinding his face with his palm, and stretching him to remain undefeated in singles competition for the year.
–Okerlund interviews Dustin Rhodes, who says that many members of the Stud Stable have tried to put him down and all of them have failed. He warns the Bully that no one can bully him around.
–A video package hypes the power of Vader.
–Non-Title Match: Hacksaw Jim Duggan (7-0) defeat Arn Anderson (Television Champion w/Colonel Robert Parker & Meng) (3-2) via disqualification when Anderson tries to use the 2×4 at 6:38:
While Duggan tries to fire up the crowd before the match, the camera zooms in on a male fan that just shakes his head. Entrances for this encounter are avoided because Anderson does not have the Television Championship belt with him due to the taping schedule. This is Duggan’s best match of the year as Anderson bumps well and the match has a good pace. However, the ending is not good as Anderson tries to use the 2×4, the referee stops him, and then proceeds to disqualify Anderson although Duggan was never hit with the object. Rating: **
–Vader and Harley Race cut a promo with Vader reiterating that Hogan fears him. Vader says that time is running out on Hulkamania.
–Tune in next week to see Brad Armstrong wrestle Bobby Eaton! Also, Alex Wright, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and Harlem Heat will be in action!
The Last Word: The main event was better than expected but Arn Anderson still cannot buy a decent win outside of his singles matches with Johnny B. Badd the previous month. WCW has done a good job building Hogan and Vader, though, as the promos and video packages have sold it as a truly epic encounter.
