Double J & Russo

20th February 2018 by Scott Keith
Rants

How much of Jeff Jarrett's 1999 WWF departure had to do with Russo leaving 2 weeks before? Was it just a coincidence that Jarrett decided to leave for WCW just 2 weeks after Russo suddenly did? And then he showed up
as “The Chosen One” under Russo's Powers That Be gimmick, and later a key member of NWO 2000.

If Russo hadn't left, would Jeff have stayed and would he have even gotten an offer from WCW?

Did Jeff have any problems with the WWF over the way Owen's death was handled, and was that another reason he left?

I don't think he's ever said that he had issues with the way Owen's death was handled, and he's certainly had lots of opportunities to do so.
I think his departure was related to Russo in the sense that after Russo left, the whole front office was in disarray and Jarrett's contract status got forgotten about, which allowed WCW to swoop in with a better offer for him. Clearly Vince was still pushing the guy and wanted him around, and I think that if things weren't so messed up at that point and JR had actually remembered to offer him a new deal, he would have stayed put.
