In response to the comments about whether an Undertaker-Razor Ramon match was ever considered for WrestleMania XI, it appears that the source used by James Dixon in Titan Sinking was a shoot interview with Scott Hall. When I check Dixon’s notes, the interview comes from an “unknown source,” so yes, it looks like that story is quite dubious.
–Men on a Mission’s post-match attack on the Smoking Gunns on The Action Zone is shown.
–Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler are doing commentary and they are taped from Augusta, Georgia.
–Opening Contest: Adam Bomb (5-1) pins Tom Prichard (w/Jim Cornette) after the Neutron Bomb at 4:35:
It seems curious that Prichard would be competing in a singles match, especially because this would be a great time to showcase the Heavenly Bodies before they square off against the Smoking Gunns for the tag team titles on the next RAW, but the company probably figured that Bomb needed a legitimate victory after losing cleanly to Shawn Michaels last month. Prichard seizes the advantage after Cornette distracts Bomb, but his tenure on offense is short-lived after Bomb blocks a superplex and hits his finisher for the victory. Rating: *½
–McMahon interviews WWF Champion Diesel in a production truck, with Diesel cracking jokes about landing planes at Kennedy airport. He puts over Shawn Michaels athleticism and Sid’s size, but this “informal interview” did very little to sell fans on the match.
–Shawn Michaels vows to win the WWF title at WrestleMania, but Pamela Anderson looks very unimpressed during the segment.
–The Blu Brothers (w/Uncle Zebekiah) (5-0-1) beat Well Dunn (w/Harvey Wippleman) (1-2) when Jacob pins Timothy Well after a spinebuster/leg drop combination at 3:46:
We get another piece of curious booking here as two heel teams collide and the crowd does not want to cheer for anyone so that tempers reaction to the match. As the records attest, the Blu Brothers have all of the momentum and they smother Steven Dunn, giving him no offense and Timothy Well fares no better when he comes in. The lone highlight is Jacob (or Eli?) getting some major hang time on his knee drop for the finish. Since Well Dunn was squashed here there is no need to rate this encounter.
–Stephanie Wiand does the final sell for the Madison Square Garden house show, which takes place tomorrow. Check out the next column for results!
–Lex Luger (6-0-1) defeats King Kong Bundy (w/Ted DiBiase) (11-0) via disqualification when Tatanka interferes at 5:58:
Luger’s ongoing war with the Million Dollar Corporation continues here, although McMahon and Lawler choose to spend more time talking about how the Corporation could forever alter the NFL if they destroy some of the NFL players backing up Lawrence Taylor at WrestleMania. Bundy dominates the match, but his slow offense takes the crowd out of it until Paul Bearer starts walking down the aisle toward the ring. The distraction paves the way for Luger’s comeback, which includes a bodyslam, but Tatanka interferes before we can find out whether Luger can win clean. Regardless, Bundy’s undefeated streak finally comes to an end in 1995. Rating: ¼*
–After the bout, Tatanka and Bundy do a two-on-one attack until the British Bulldog, Luger’s new tag team partner for WrestleMania, makes the save.
–Wiand reminds us to check out the Fan Festival at WrestleMania.
–Man Mountain Rock (5-0) beats The Black Phantom via submission to the Whammy Bar at 1:50:
One of the Phantom’s trademarks is screaming really loud during matches, which can be funny if done at the right moment, such as being mauled by Rock in the corner. Rock showcases his suplex abilities before slapping in the Whammy Bar for a quick win.
–The Nicholas Turturro-Ted DiBiase vignette for WrestleMania is shown.
–A Lawrence Taylor video says that he does not like snakes or alligators, but does not see those qualities in Bam Bam Bigelow, who he considers to be a “pussycat.”
–Kama (w/Ted DiBiase) (6-0) pins Leroy Howard after a spinning thrust kick at 1:49
This is Kama’s first match as a member of the Million Dollar Corporation as he joined the group last week on The Action Zone. Howard does a good job selling Kama’s strikes, which may have contributed to Kama deciding to finish him via pinfall instead of submission.
–Wiand screams at us that we need to get to Madison Square Garden for tomorrow afternoon’s show. Diesel cuts a fierce promo that promises a war in the Garden against Shawn Michaels and Jeff Jarrett.
–Roddy Piper blowing a fire extinguisher in Morton Downey, Jr.’s face at WrestleMania V is our “WrestleMania Moment” segment for this week.
–Tune in next week to see Aldo Montoya face Hakushi! The Smoking Gunns will also be in action and Tatanka will square off against the British Bulldog!
The Last Word: The company put a lot of feature matches onto this week’s show but the action was relatively sub-par. I expected Bundy to beat Luger due to Tatanka’s interference, but the disqualification finish did not hurt Bundy and reinforced the idea that Luger had a new tag team ally in the Bulldog so the booking there made sense. It also setup next week’s big match.
Up Next (on Friday): The Action Zone from March 19, 1995!
